    Buying Standalone DVD player with Divx....and cdg ?

    Saw the advert in todays paper, and it said summit like "karaoke disc compatible"....so maybe cdg compatible.
    Anyway, plays Divx for less than £30. :coffee:

    http://www.whsmith.co.uk/whs/go.asp?...0634459&DB=622

    W H Smith;
    Budget priced DVD Player with the added function of the new DIVX technology, the most popular movie format transportable on the Internet. Slim, compact design with LCD menu. Scart cable included. Delivery to UK credit card billing addresses only.
    This player can provide Karaoke function and has a jack for a microphone.

    1 Year return to Store.

    What is DivX?
    DivX is the brand name of the world's most popular video compression technology. At its core, DivX is a codec (short for compression/decompression) - a piece of software that compresses video from virtually any source down to a size that is transportable over the Internet without reducing the original video's visual quality. With DivX video technology, you can compress a VHS tape down to 100th of its original size or a DVD to one-tenth of its size. DivX video compression is so efficient you can fit the entire contents of a DVD onto a regular data CD with no perceivable loss in quality. Now you can take any digital video content such as home movies and save it on CDs to share with friends or store it on your computer's hard drive without spending huge amounts on extra storage.

    With the full range of DivX® Certified devices flooding the market this year, you can now easily take that DivX movie created on your computer, pop it into your DivX Certified DVD player and enjoy it on your big screen TV. The DivX codec even let’s you make movies specifically for your favourite device, be it Portable (your personal video player for when you travel), High Definition (your fancy new HDTV), Handheld (your video-capable PDA, like Compaq's PocketPC) or Home Theatre (your DivX Certified DVD player).

    Cheers M8,dont mean to go off topic, but I get around 6 newspapers every morning....and when I travel "down south" Im shocked at the difference between The SCOTTISH Sun & The Sun.

    Honestly,up here they slate English people, and the "south" version is the same paper with those bits missing.

    Nick over the border & get a "Scottish" version, and I swear your jaw will hit the floor.

    Merry Christmas to you too...

    Multi-region & Macrovision hack

    1. Disc Tray Open
    2. press 3,3,0,8 (on remote or player itself)
    3. Select Region (1,2,3...0 for multiregion disables macrovision also)

    Tried the hack but did not show a menu screen to choose region so unsure if it worked or not. Stuck in a region 1 disk and what da ya know, it plays! Should have tried the region 1 disk before trying the hack but either as said in previous post it is already region free OR the hack did work, mind you I have not come across a player that does not give some kind of indication that a hack has been applied.
