I'm looking for a printer that will print directly onto a cd/dvd, but don't really know which one to go for. Any recommendations?
Also are there any that only print on cds and cant be used as a normal printer?

I just got an Epson R300 that prints direct to CD/DVD and I must say it is impressive. It also does photo quality and has a media card reader.
There is an optional one with a LCD monitor for direct photo printing but its a bit more expensive.

Ive got a casio one, CW-75- uses thermal ribbons that will do around 40 silvers each cartridge, and come in various colours. Cant fault it, you can convert bmp and jpegs to the printer format, and use the software for different fonts etc, although it is only around 150dpi, but is more than adequate for cd printing:whistle
also got an R300 at work for printing the odd cd/dvd
works a treat as long as you get decent cd/dvd......
note that not all "white tops" are for printing...
i use Sony "CDQ80P" and they have a semi metalic whilte/silver finish..
makes a huge differance to the final quality of the print job.
Yep i got a R300 as well. Carts a bit pricy but third party offer great reductions.

R300 all the way.

Id go with the R300, or the cheaper R200.
White tops seem to give a better looking disk than the silver tops.

I've got a Canon IP3000, fantastic for CD/DVD printing, and excellent for photo printing too. It's big brother, the IP4000, is available at Dixons for £102 (less if you can find a discount code), and is even better. :thumbs
I have the R300 and have found it excellent for printind cd/dvd's
With the r300, how does it print on the cd? I thought thats cd printers would have a tray that opens (like a rom drive) and the cd is put on there for printing.
i got the epson 900. comes with a nice cd printing prgm and does a good job m8, the r200 and r300 are really the same but the 300 has card reader and the 200 dont so i would go for the 200 really unless you are to idle to put yer pics on yer pc 1st
I've got the r300 and so far it's been great - a bit of a sucker on the carts but I've just ordered a chip re-programmer to get that extra bit outta em!
As for how it works, there is a "slot tray" that flips down on the front. You then insert another separate tray holding the cd into that tray and it pulls in into the print line. The print heads lift up to accomodate for the extra size!
TO check the counter and head you could try h**p://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml
Its a software package thats able to freeze the chip.

Just bought an R300 and got some nice printable DVDs. Very impressed with the quality and speed. I think I paid £6.50 for 25xfujicode 8x DVD-R with printable tops.
Yeh I have the R300 got it for £60ish (ebuyer) and use RiDisc whitetops with G04 dye. Great printing, great discs, great printer.
All round.
