    Default Media Center

    Well,

My dads in the process of getting a new house yet again. Even know we only moved into current one like 1month ago. (Property devloper)

The new house is massive, and have bought a Projector for it, with a nice screen (automatic drop down from roof).

Dad wants me to build a media center for him. I was wondering if any of you have them, what Hardware you have used etc?

    Any suggestions/advice.

    Thanks

what exactly u mean by media center mate?

i am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

got a shuttle XPC running a Athlon 2200+ with a 40gig drive in it on my wireless network so i can share my music collection

got a black gold freeview (dvb-t) card in it so i can use it as a PVR and watch a bit of telly

only thing bad about it is the on board tv-out is a bit crap but if its going into a projector this shouldnt be an issue as majority have a vga input

quite recommend the XPC or any of the small form factore PC's for the simple fact they are so small and fairly quiet

i havent got a dvd writer in mine as thats in the main machine....

unless ur playing games on it there isnt much point in spending too much on a gfx card as long as the quality of the video and the tv-out is good

ebuyer are selling the xp media center remotes now for about 27 quid too.... quite handy as other remotes dont support all of media centers features

just as a note I do not think you can buy the windows media center edition os

you either need to get it through an MSDN subscription or OEM with a PC

EBuyer also sell the OEM version of Media Center 2005 although it has to be brought with a piece of hardware... a dirt cheap mouse or keyboard for a couple of quid will do it

U can find it on there site >here<

U never used to be able to get it seperately but they have apparently relaxed the distribution of this version

    Hope that helps mate
