Inflating tires

I thought this was interesting, not that I'd ever do it.

"You spray some highly flammable liquid into the tire cavity and ignite it; the gas expands explosively and seals the tire to the rim (with pressure, not melting). Depending on how much liquid you spray you should have enough pressure for a trip long enough to get the tire fixed properly. It's an emergency procedure because it can burst the tire (or obviously start a fire) if you do it wrong."

Seen something similar on Topgear a few years ago, guys were driving across a glacier in Iceland, they run their tyres almost flat to spread the weight better, sometimes though the tyre pops off and they used the same trick to get back up and running, very impressive, but i think i'll probably take the cowards way out and phone the AA.

...could just picture sitting
on the hard shoulder on the M8 with a burst tyre with a tin of liquid about to ignite and the Traffics drive by:coffee: ....."Eh son just jump in the back,Pit street here you come
