    Default Weird... just weird.

Well after formatting my computer and sticking XP Pro with a Slipstreamed version of SP2 on the computer I have encountered some really weird problems so I was hoping someone could help me out. (I might have to format and start from scratch)

I have installed Norton Systemworks 2005 but it takes about 5 minutes to load up from logging into my computer (this is not an extravagation) I also have to load it manually as it doesn't boot itself. I tried sticking it into the Startup folder and it will load (after 5 minutes) but all the options are off... ( the most serious being Norton Antivirus!, I have to turn it on manually every single time ) I am also having a problem with my Network card, Before the reinstall I could talk with my xbox quite happily, but now I have no network icons to speak of so I can't setup up the network -____-

    I've had a look here :

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

But that is no help! So what do you guys think? Format time?

Oh I am also having problems with my sound card..... I am unable to load any other norton programs like Internet Security which is a bit of a bastard as it blocks pop-up's quite nicely.

    Thanks in advance,

Format, reinstall XP and ignore anything made by Norton. It is the work of Satan.

well I thought that was good advice, and still do. Symantec products take too much control over your system to a point at where it clogs up your system and becomes a nuisance. The only symantec product I like is Ghost, and you don't need to install to run it which makes it very handy. Otheriwise, there's better free tools for everything else Norton does, which is far better and less power hungry.

I started using Norton stuff in 94 and stopped in 98 when I discovered other things that beat the sh1t out of all of their crappy system-hogging products.

lol you guys are nutters. I have used Norton for years and it has always worked fine for me, it might be power hungry but it works well and everything is in one neat package. I guess I will just have to try the formatting route and see where it takes me.

Best bet, uninstall SP2, lots of people had big probs after installing it see below

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=884130&product=windowsxpsp2

    some of the programs affected:
    • AOL Toolbar
      BitDefender
      BitDefender AntiSpam
      BlackICE
      BootSkin
      Command Antivirus
      Encyclopedia Britannica 2000 Deluxe
      eTrust EZ Armor
      Freedom Force
      Kaspersky Anti-Virus
      Live Motion
      MapSend DirectRoute
      MPEGcraft DVD
      NBA LIVE 2000
      NOD32
      Norman Personal Firewall 1.4
      Norton AntiVirus 2003
      Norton SystemWorks 2003
      Norton SystemWorks 2004
      OmniPage Pro 11
      Outpost Firewall 2.1
      PaperPort Deluxe 8
      Pinnacle Studio 9
      Rational ClearCase 2003
      Roboword Pro
      Semagic 1.3.9.6
      Style XP 2
      Virtual PC 2004
      VirusSecurity 2004
      Window-Eyes Professional 4.2
      WinRoute Pro 4.25
      WordPerfect Office 11
      Yahoo Instant Messenger 6
      ZoneAlarm
Note Norton is one of affected programs, but IMHO would rather use Spybot, Adaware, AVG anti-virus, Spywareblaster and Sygate personal firewall, all free and leave my computer with a bit of processor power to do what i want
