What happens when you try? What OS?Originally Posted by mrhotdoguk
WinXP Pro.
The error is attached.
Have you tried doing it from a cmd prompt? Or tried deleting them in Safe Mode?
Have tried doing it in cmd prompt but no luck. Will try the safe mode and will get back to you with the results ASAP.
Thanks for the help.
what warez folders exactly? and do you have any idea why they just appeared?Originally Posted by mrhotdoguk
If it's a remote FTP connection I dont think safe mode or dos will help, you might need to be changing your FTP settings possibly. Also it might just be an error, if your trying to delete something that doesn't exist then it wont work. your FTP might be cached or something stupid, I dunno I dont fully understand what's happened to you. explain...
I'm new to this
Hey,
I don't know if im any help, but are you renaming folders on an FTP Server? Or are you renaming Folders on your own computer? If your renaming folders on an FTP Server it sounds like you don't have Write/Edit rights but you have Read rights
If its on your PC, then Im clueless!
I've had exactly (or still have) the same thing on my PC desktop. My website recently ran a competition and people entered remake game files, one of which was named in a rather strange and unconventional manner. This name was perfectly legal as far as our PHP upload script was concerned and proved not to be a problem actually on the webserver concerning legality of filename either.
However when downloaded to the desktop on my Win2k machine the problems started as now I have finished with the file it cannot be deleted. I too have tried it from DOS and in safemode to no avail. I have also tried a piece of software called [GiPo] which can be obtained from http://www.gibinsoft.com and this doesn't seem to have solved it either. All I get is the same error as MrHotDogUK ...
Any help or advice would be appreciated
there are various scams such as the symbol alt+255 typed into dos makes a space and in windows (older versions) an underscore, so you can create folders like "you suck_" on people's desktops with a command prompt, they try to delete and it doesnt work cos windows cant find the file with the underscore and when u try from the CMD prompt you see a space and also cant delete it cos when u type the space it still isnt a 255.Originally Posted by The Toker
could be something like that?

I get the same error but it's not on my hard disk. It's on pen drive and CD. I have not come around to solving it yet. The name of the folder and the files with in are not named using standard characters. I have no idea what is happening. The other files/folders on the disk work fine.
