Mans best friend? J.D. certainly ain't.

GRAPEVINE -- For at least one day, man's best friend was no amigo.

A labrador retriever named J.D. recovered a plastic bag containing marijuana from some water at the Bear Creek Park Frisbee Golf Course on Monday afternoon, giving it back to his owner -- who was standing beside a police officer.

J.D.'s owner, Matthew Porter, 25, of Richland Hills was arrested, along with a 24-year-old Euless man.

Porter was in the Grapevine Jail on Tuesday on misdemeanor suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic warrants from Saginaw.

The Euless man was in the same jail on suspicion of traffic warrants from Euless and possession of marijuana. He had not been arraigned.

Porter's bad day started shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday at the park in the 3600 block of Texas 360.

Officer Cris Brichetto stopped Porter, the Euless man and another man on the golf course after the officer smelled marijuana.

As the officer checked whether the men were wanted on outstanding warrants, J.D. retrieved the bag from the water and took it to Brichetto. The Euless man told the officer that the bag belonged to him. It contained almost four grams of marijuana, police said.

Police arrested the Euless man and Porter and released the third man. J.D. was released to the third man.

If Porter had only owned a Chihuahua.
