Default Who uses Softmod? or knows about it.

hey, i got a modded xbox but am interested in this 'softmoding'.

i have read a couple of tutorials but still not 100% certain on how it actualy works.

does anyone here run a softmodded box and can shed sum light?

from my understanding, you download some files, put em onto a mem card, boot up 007 and load the files as a game save... where it then installs and you configure it?

wtf does 007 have to do with it? i saw there is a choice of 3 games.

and from softmodding, do u have to do it every boot? or once its done its done.

does it just allow u to play back up discs? do u have a dashboard?

    any info greatly appreciated. :thumbs

It does everything a modchip does except you cant turn it off meaning you cant use live.

    evox.

The 007 or one of the other games have flaws enabling the saved gaves to be hacked and load evox then flash your onboard TSOP with a hacked bios .

    start reading you lazy git

    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=44

Youll need an original either 007 or mechassault etc.

Yes you can put a bigger HD as said it does everything a standard modchip does except you cant use live.

ha ha ha, i have been reading 4me2... but where better to voice my doubts than DF!

i have the original 007 agent under fire... i have a mem card... so get these files and im good to go aye... lol

i just got SOFTMOD INSTALLER DELUXE v2.0.

its has SID.007.AUF.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.zip, guess thats what i use aye.

How do I do it? - 007 Agent Under Fire Install
    ----------------------------------------------

    1. Copy the contents of SID.007.AUF.v2.0.Xbox-Hq to your memory device. The best ways are
to use a modded Xbox to do it (by unzipping the file and copying the contents to
E:\) and then transfering to your memory card, or use a Mega X-Key or
Action Replay to dump the ZIP files on to.

    2. Make sure the gamesave is on your unmodded Xbox, then turn it off.

    3. Insert 007 AUF and turn your Xbox on. When you're at the main menu of the game,
select "Load Mission" and then highlight "Xbox HDD". Tress A to boot the Installer.

    4. Once the Installer has boot, I strongly suggest to make a backup of your C Drive.
Use the "Create C Backup" option to backup your C drive. To back up the Eeprom you'll
need to use the Evolution X dashboard, which you will have to install yourself after
the softmod is done. The Eeprom backup is stored at C:\Backup (this can't be changed
    unfortunately) so please remember this.

    5. Install the Softmod. Please note this deletes the MS Dash from C Drive, hence why you
have been told to use the backup feature.

    6. Install what dashboard you wish to use. Unfortunately due to lack of space I can only
put Evolution X and UnleashX in this package, I hope that is good enough.

    7. Shut down your Xbox, then restart it and remove the disc. If this has worked like it
should, you should see your choice of dashboard (either EvoX or UnleashX). Please note
if you boot your Xbox and leave the DVD Tray open it will take you back to the menu
    where you installed your Softmod.
    seems easy enough! :thumbs

one more thing... when ur installing the softmod... do u get a GUI with all 'back and dashboard install info'? :nowords:

no theres also a couple of points you need to bridge either with solder or the easy way with conductive silver paint used for rear car window heater grill repairs.

Im sure malty has a sticky on it and theres photos on xboxscene of the motherboard and where to bridge. They are different depending on motherboard version .

When I first done it many moons ago Malty helped me out on msn .

Ive done a few since but its a long time ago and Im very rusty on it now .

There maybe need files and hacks now.

Im sure the pack/hack I used was called euthasia or something simular.

theres an all in 1 eurasia flash pack for flashing the onboard bios (not on 1.6 xbox tho) from the site

    www.eurasia.nu iirc

find the diagrams for bridging your write enable points on xbox-scene.com tuts and find your bios in the xbox linux site faqs.

If you want to leave it as a softmod, use that guide you posted above. That loads a loader which patches the bios im memory to allow it to load the backups

so if i follow the guide i posted... that makes it softmod and it will play back ups.

what are the solder/bridge points for? :nowords:

to explain the whole thing incase its not clear...

    softmodding:-

you use specially prepared files to invoke a hack/exploit in either 007 agent under fire or mechassault games. This exploit allows you to install hacked files to your dashboard which will with some work boot a 'loader' which patches the bios thats been loaded in memory to allow the use of backups

flashing the bios (sometimes called tsop flashing):-

you use specially prepared files to invoke a hack/exploit in either 007 agent under fire or mechassault games. This exploit allows you to run a flasher to flash a patched bios to your bios chip in the xbox. You need to solder 2 points to do this.

Default Re: Who uses Softmod? or knows about it.

so to do a actual simple softmod just to play back ups... requires no soldering?

in a nutshell, yes. with the latest softmods/installers, a softmod can do almost everything that a modchip can do. the advantages of a modchip are:

    1:boot up an unlocked HD
2:can boot up an xbox with a bad eeprom/bios (only certian chips can do this)
3: unique addons only available to a chip (LCD screens, bios banks, ect).
4: can be turned off via switch to play on xbl

    advantages of soft is:

    1: Its cheap
2: easier to restore back to stock to play xbl
3: with current exploits (uxe) it is safe
    4: NO SOLDERING!!! lol
5: if using stock HD, your warrenty is not voided (sortof, read the disclaimer M$ provides...)

    Downfalls of a modchip:

1: Cost. some of em are cheap, others are rather spendy IMO.
2: Installation. some are solderless, but these have had there probs too (connections coming loose).

    Downfalls of a softmod

1: Installation. If you are not carefull, you can end up with a dead xbox
2: If using an older exploit, you may run into a clock loop.

Downfall of both softmod and modchip.

1: no matter what anybody tells you, you CAN NOT play xbl when either is active (on/running)

correct, now go read the tuts on xbox scene .. thats why theyre there.. dont just half-sorta-speed-read-a-bit them then come back here with half baked questions FOLLOW them thru carefully

if you do that then still get stuck, we will still be here
