    Info plusnet

plusnet offered my m8 a cheap upgrade to 1mb

its a 12month contract and now we both get this mail the other week!

Great news! Free speed upgrades to all PlusNet customers
    --------------------------------------------------------

Following BT's recent announcement that they plan to increase broadband speeds up to 8Mb across their local exchange network, we are delighted to offer free speed upgrades and a brand new product range for our customers.

From April, you will be able to take advantage of these faster broadband speeds as they become available, giving you a free-of-charge upgrade to the fastest broadband available.

BT is working hard to ensure that as many people as possible are able to receive the maximum available speeds. Further, BT Wholesale's changes enable us to determine our customers' actual speed setting, instead of this being set at BT's local exchange.

    1) Speed upgrades to all fixed-cost broadband products
    ------------------------------------------------------

If you're curre***y on Broadband Home Premier, you will be able to choose the speed you operate your connection at - from 512kb right up to 8Mb where available.

The Premier product range offers a clean 50:1 contended DSL connection with no network restrictions or traffic shaping applied, so you can run whatever applications you need - at any time of the day - with no worries about speed or performance.

it really depends if you are a heavy user ?

if so they've just implemented some fair use thing which isnt gonna be any good for you if you rinse your line 24/7 , more info on their site

I'm in the process of leaving plusnet as their 'fair use policy' states that you are allowed to download an average of 75mb per month.
They didn't seem to like me downloading on average 280gb per month and have politely asked me to leave.

Top drawer if you don't hammer it tbh, the speed is good, the customer service is good, but for me I didn't quite fall in their catagory of making money.

I did sign up for an unlimited package , but they have now changed their t&c's

Lets hope they make my migration to pipex as easy as they said they will.

    Plusnet can bollox

I too have just kicked Plusnet after 2.5 years - what with this fair usage policy, I'm outta there before I get kicked.

Signed up with Bulldog. They are running a special offer until 10th March - 4MB Unlimited + phoneline for £30pm

I think upload is 400k instead of the usual 256k (not that its important).

£10 cheaper than my 2mb Plusnet link and I'll be saving on my BT line rental - fantastic.

Forget about the 8Mb speeds it's a load of hype to take the sting out of the fair usage policy being introduced.

To start with it's only a trial and unless you're connected to one of these exchanges and on 2Mb already you have very little chance of getting it in the near future.

What PlusNet are doing though is a bulk regrade between April and June, although with their recent "sexed up" announcemnets it may take longer. So your line will be upgraded for free to 2Mb if it can support it.

I said it once and I'll say it again, avoid plusnet if you can.
Along with the problems ive had changing from them (they kept taking money from the credit card you need to sign up and therefore cannot cancel it either), a further two of my friends have also had problems leaving them and also ppl on this forum have had problems leaving them. Ok while ur with them as fa as i was concerned but thats where it ends....

In 28 days I'm gonna find out soulassassin - can't I just cancel the DD at the bank on my last day with them? Surely they won't be able to request any more money?

Well thats what i done and they took it from my girlfriends credit card (the one i used to sign up) Change ur card details before you cancel ur direct debit, I think they will then give you greif if you migrate to another isp by not giving a number you will need (forgot the name of it)

God i hate plusnet :annoyed: :grr: :annoyed:

they took 3 months worth of money (130 quid a month then) from me when I left them, they were absolutely useless, then had the cheek to offer me dial up, I told them I'd just cancelled a 2mbit connection (which hadn't worked for at least a month), would I be interested in a 56k dial up, along with a few other choice words.

Spoke to Plusnet today - told them that if it wasn't for the Bulldog deal I'd be staying with them - the guy agreed it was a very good deal and said he'd do the same - at least he was honest.

Had an email waiting for me at home saying my last bill will be on 16th March - I'll be down the bank on the 17th....

Bulldog have said I dont have to migrate , just cancel. They're not bothered about a MAC key either.
