Is my HDD conking out or

About 2 hours ago i went to cam on MSN and as i clicked the cam icon my HDD started making like a Tick Tock <pause> Tick Tock noise not loud but could hear it then the pc froze and after a few seconds it came back to normal until about 10 mins ago it did it again but this time i hadn't touched anything, rebooted and it kept making the tick tock noise and wouldnt load, left it just a couple of mins and its right again, its only a seagate 20gb and ive had it about 3yrs.

Sounds like it M8 but HD's are cheap these days.

Yeah best not to keep rebooting it - buy a new Hard Disk then do a Ghost of it straight off before it goes completely.

Mine did similar, not on msn, but I would be looking at a website, and a loudish knock from hdd, and I kept on putting replacing it off, until it went completely. I lost loadsa digi photos, letters etc, and wish I'd replaced it earlier, so do it sooner rather than later...

If you HDD ever dies, you can try to loosen the screws on the circuitry board (no need to remove them and then on the end with your ide connections, give it a gentle tap with the handle of your screwdriver, this is normally enough to get the drive spinning again and often gives you enough time (unless its seriously shagged) to copy data across.

Just thought I'd share that with you all!
