They binned the Klix machines where I work and there are still a few lying around. I think they are coded to companies.

I did a project to hack these keys a few years ago on here, some of the older members might remember "the-wizards-workbench" site I ran. Built a programmer using a klix key slot spare part (same as used on machines) and an eeprom programmer to read and write the keys. They use a 93C46B Serial Eeprom. Keys have 16 pads, but only 8 are actually used. There is alot of variation on how the keys can be programmed, some are locked to certain machines and alike. From what I can remember in some cases it was as simple as reflashing the key with a hex from a key with money on, once it had been used, just reflash it. Ill see if I can dig out the study docs I wrote for this system. They are made by DataKey and they sell a Development System for "Klix Keys" and software to "play" with them. Please dont PM/Mail me about it tho as Im a busy bunny and wont reply!

edit: found a pic of the programmer I made..will dig it out and some info sometime..

I've still got an adapter Steve Going to give it a go again. without looking at the adapter now I think the pin out was 1 to 8 along the key from the front to the back. Top & bottom were the same ie 1 to 8. If anyone has a key available I'd really appreciate having one again.

P.s. Steve did you ever compare the hex & see how it changed when adding credit.? And what happened to WW other than it closing?

Looks like they are locked to a machine then - I'd be interested in seeing if they can be hacked though to work on any machine! People use ours for coin only as far as I know, so maybe they ain't set up the security restrictions!

No JK they can be locked to a machine but apparently this feature was not always enabled.

http://www.datakeyelectronics.com/index.html has tons of info, tech sheets and dev gear check it out if ur interested in playing with these keys. http://www.nexusgb.co.uk/ is the UK Distro, mail them if you want any of the kit and im sure they will help you out. The dev gear is quite pricey tho, its more fun to make it like it did anyways lol

i had a progger+pcb off pyro a couple of years back but never got it to work, I could get some sort of dump off the key, but it seemed a bit random. I've since changed job so we don't use these now.
It Needs someone with a greater understanding of electronics i think to make this work, as it doesent seem that it could be that difficult to reprogram the keys chip.
