    Default xbox hard drive problem

Hi, I think my hard drive on my "unmodded" xbox is about to give up the go, it has started making grinding noises and when I switched on before it would boot fully and the power light went red and I got a screen saying "you xbox needs to be serviced by microsoft" with a code 07 in the top left corner.

    Sooo..

What can I do chaps? does anyone know where I can just buy a replacement drive that I can swap and plug in?

bearing in mind that I dont want to mod anything or use the drive for anything storage wise, I just want a replacement, either that or I buy another xbox.

    Pete

blackster, a 07 code is " HD timed out ". open your xbox and check the power and IDE connections on the DVD drive and the HD drive. This is useally the problem, if you move your box around alot. Also check the solder connections on the power supply where the power cable connects to it for the HD, I have seen some bad connections there. I'm not sure where you can buy a factory replacement other then M$, but if your problem is not the connections and you tell me which version box you have I may just have it, you can have if you want to pay the shipping? At last count I think I had 8 factory drives on my work bench, I would be glad to get ride of them.

Hi Endofdays, I'm unsure of which version it is, the mfg date is : 2002-09-27, I will open it up over the weekend and see if anything is loose like you said.

if u cant get it sorted if im correct ur gonna have to get a chip and new hdd to fix it or if u did a softmod on it and have the backup files u can make a new hdd with those files u backed up and it will work again

other thing u could do is if u no a friend with a no solder mod put it in and get it booting to ur dashboard unleashx or whichever and with a memory card install the softmod on the hdd with ur game of ur softmod package ...once done that should work and u can take the no solder chip out and there u have a new hdd and bigger the better 300gb
u prob no this but mite be of use

I think it's gonna be a "bin" job if the power cables and other cables aint at fault as I dont understand how to install another hard drive.
