I wondered if anyone has had one of these before?

Looking on the site it seems they are quite happy to offer a loan to starting a new business but I wondered how they were at giving out grants too? It seems to state that they are only given out in Special Circumstances, would anyone know what sort of circumstances these are? Any useful advice/info would be appreciated.

(I'm not planning on ripping them off, so plz hold jokes off )

Hey Shang - well we had one to start our business but that was many moons ago, so not sure what the difference is now, but basically at the time we did it, you could get 1.5k grant and then 2.5k loan for a maximum of 4k. As we were in partnership that was doubled so they gave us 8k in total, 3k grant and 5k loan.

You need a faultless business plan, a good idea, and if you can make some form of presentation and knock their socks off - all the better. Thing is - you get the loan first, and the grant second so no matter what happens you'll still have a loan (if i remember correctly). Once you get your business started you also get entered into the Shell Livewire Young Busines competitions, with regional and national finals - so you also get the chance to pocket another few thousand in prize money. I think we won it twice in a row even though yer not meant to be in it twice lol. Made us a nice 2.5k.
