Too many DIRTY DISK ERRORs to be a prob with the media?

Right, a friend has recently been receiving dirty disk errors for games that worked previously as well as newly burned games that work fine on my xbox as well as on the harddrive. (What I mean is that I place the disk in my xbox and it loads and plays fine but when it is placed in his it gives him errors.) Now, it is not a media <--> xbox DVD drive compatibility issue as the media brand in question has been tested to work on both of our xboxes. Questions:

1) Could this be a laser issue in which all that may be required is a good cleaning? If so, what drive cleaners do you recommend for the xbox disc drive? Could it be any old generic cd/dvd drive cleaners?

2) Just in case it turns out to be a media prob, what brand do you recommend that has impeccable reliability and longibity with respect to xbox games? I'm aware of the well hyped brand that digital-forums pushes...um it is sold by raptor's company...what is the brand name and website again please?

P.S. I would REALLY like to avoid a pot tweak if I can.

Hello mate,

Does the media work in another Xbox OK ? if so I would go with the Laser cleaner disc - I havent needed one yet but I have a couple of mates have - I think they just used what ever was in the shop, nothing too specialised. There is no way you media is failing so quickly, unless the discs are getting scratched.

Same problem here, mine being a Thompson 2 & half years old so maybe I need a new laser/drive. Will give laser cleaner a whirl tho before I go the whole way with new drive

I have the same situation with my mate, i use datawrites and my are play fine but he always gets a dirty disc error. Now i use ritek for him and they work fine. On another note his will only play ritek we tried about 5 different makes and all failed one way or another.

same as my box, used to play most media then slowly it would only play Ritek media.
then I engaged in a lot pot tweaking last week, it was only a very slight change but now my drive reads all the media again.

Mine did similar even with proper games (thompson drive) a while back- I did the pot adjustment and now its fine again. Give it a shot, but do not do it unless you are confident about ripping your drive apart.

fe_man2000: Yea the games work on my xbox but not on his. The problem is that this is true only SOME of the times. So consistency is a prob. I'll have me m8 give the generic laser disc cleaner a go and see what happens.

For all: So what is the brand of media that DF pushes? It's sold by raptor's company and is nicely tested. We get e-mails about discounts sometimes. You lot know what I'm talking about right? What is the site of his shop please? Cheerz.

*sigh* it seems that I may have to tweek the pot if all this doesn't work out.
