Setting up a community wireless broadband link

I live in a small village and we have yet to get broadband. BT have announced that we will have it by may 16th at the latest.

I was thinking that maybe it would be better for a few of my mates to club together and get say a 2 - 4 Mb connection and share it over wireless than say each get 512K.

Anyone done something similar? Would most likely be 5 people all within 1/2 mile range of eash other.

Any pros or cons?

better with this in the hardware section you would get a better response, but i reckon you would have trouble, you would get someone hoggin the bandwidth even if you set the limit their are ways round it, and with the price falling is it worth the hassle of shaing, and we aint even looked at hardware, for example who would have ultimate control of the network and would they be re-embursed for the power used (yeah i know it would'nt be much) and 101 other things, i would'nt do it
