Please help, I've got my mates Compaq computer that is very compact, used by BT, it is a pentium II and has everything built in (no room for any plug ins), it is running windows 98, I formatted it because he got a virus...... I don't have a clue what drivers I need,:| my mate don't have any!
So what I would like to know if any one can help me please is "How can I find out what the graphics adapter driver is and what the sound driver is?":|

    thank you

you not got XP to hand to install... or 98 ur only option.

ur find xp has a vast majority of popular drivers in it already... i never usualy have to muck about with drivers for sound cards etc...

just the damn printer when i loose the discs

your have to find out the brand a model of the components inside before u can know what drivers you need.

take a look in Device manager.

Right click My computer, properties, hardware, device manager. (just in case )

Hi Spencer, thanks for quick reply, I have a legal copy of 98 don't want to install my XP as it is required to be registered with in 30 days and to get the upgrades, service packs etc, so 98 realy only option. Cheers

cant u even have a look at the card and see if you can see any markings on it that may give you a clue to who makes it..

its prolly gonna be one of nvidia or ati etc.. could narrow the list of places to look.

This is a good reason to at least keep a minimal inventory of components when using a machine rom in device manager. Saves on heartache like this later.

Thats a Compaq iPaq desktop - have a gander at Compaq's website... which will probably take you to HP as they merged a while back....

These tend to be used by Corporates and invariably use an integrated intel grapfics chip.

If you can - get hold of a trial copy of Sysoft Sandra or Aida32 (I think) and they will be able to tell you exactly what hardware is in the box.

    ermmm guys!

First off... I am 99% sure XP will not install on a Pentium II.... it will actually tell you to fu(k off!

Secondly, all you need it the make and model number of the PC... I am sure a search on the net will find the correct drivers for the PC??
