Help Can't delete folders containing mp3 files

    Hi Guys

I'm running Windows xp with sp2. I can't rename or delete any folders that contain mp3 files. When I try to rename or delete it says "access denied - in use by another program" etc even though no programs are running. I have two hard drives and the problem is occuring on both. If a try to create a new folder and copy an existing mp3 into it, even this new folder once it contains an mp3 can't be renamed or deleted. The strange thing is that I can rename/ delete the actual files within the folders, but still can't delete the folder when all files within have been deleted. I can also rename or delete any other folder that does not contain mp3s.

    Any ideas...
    TIA

Info Re: Can't delete folders containing mp3 files

I dont know why your getting the problem, but to remove the folders why not try running the erase command. It needs to be run from a DOS window but I find it deletes every little fooking thing I've had problems with. Its a adaptation of the DEL command from the old DOS days.

Heres the info you get if you type erase /?
    Deletes one or more files.

    DEL [/P] [/F] [/S] [/Q] [/A[[:]attributes]] names
    ERASE [/P] [/F] [/S] [/Q] [/A[[:]attributes]] names

names Specifies a list of one or more files or directories.
Wildcards may be used to delete multiple files. If a
directory is specified, all files within the directory
    will be deleted.

/P Prompts for confirmation before deleting each file.
/F Force deleting of read-only files.
/S Delete specified files from all subdirectories.
/Q Quiet mode, do not ask if ok to delete on global wildcard
/A Selects files to delete based on attributes
    attributes R Read-only files S System files
H Hidden files A Files ready for archiving
    - Prefix meaning not

If Command Extensions are enabled DEL and ERASE change as follows:

The display semantics of the /S switch are reversed in that it shows
you only the files that are deleted, not the ones it could not find.

Default Re: Can't delete folders containing mp3 files

There's also the ye olde classic RMDIR command too (or RD):

/S Removes all directories and files in the specified directory
in addition to the directory itself. Used to remove a directory
    tree.

/Q Quiet mode, do not ask if ok to remove a directory tree with /S

Also for a solution, what program do you use to listen to your MP3s? I used to have problems with Windows trying to preview the files with Windows Media Player even though I didn't want to listen to them, and it locking access to the folder.
