Default Start - Run - ipconfig HELP

I often have a problem due to the girlfreinds PC that the PC's auto rename thier IP for osme reason (soon to change due to glirfriend gettign new PC). I have had a few poeple look into this with no luck in changing it

BUT my problem has developed further.

after eMule had crashed i guessed it woudl be an IP issue as that is what it always is due to auto renaming.

so i did Start - Run - ipconfig.....

Window popped up and promptly disspeard! WTF, ok, must be me, try again, SAME, restart, SAME, Shut down, unp[lug leave for a few mins (make some tea) come back reboot ....... - ipconfig, wondow pops up and shuts again.

I found my IP info through my router in the end but am concerned as to why my dos window will not stay open. PLEASE PLEASE can some one help, i am worried now this might be serious.

    Cheers......Q

sounds like you've had a fun time trying to fix the normal behaviour of windows

its totally normal for the command window to close down as soon as the program finishes running.

    instead of start-run-ipconfig

    do start-run-cmd

and then type ipconfig in the new command window

You can also find all this out in Control Panel, open Network Connections, double-click the individual connection (or right-click it and click Status).

If you have a look at the TCP/IP properties you should also be able to assign yourself a fixed IP.

Yea you've got to type cmd (command) first to get up the command prompt. There is a powertoy to 'add command prompt here' or something I think which allows you to right click and start a command prompt in the folder you are viewing.
