For those of us who have a PDA with TOM TOM Navigator, you can always get a free addon called checkpoint and download the updated speed camera database. Use with your PDA, it warns you when approaching either the hand held locations or gatso etc...

Don't know about the continuous beep from it when you exceed the speed limit

Various reviews from other customers: fairly mixed reviews, either love it or hate it

    Dire
    review posted 14/05/2005 20:40:00
The Inforad sounds like excellent value but in practice I found it to be useless. More than 90% of the alerts it generates are spurious. The problem is the Inforad has no idea if you are approaching a camera. The device simply sounds a warning if a camera is within a 400 meter diameter circle. So not only does it generate alerts for cameras on the opposite carriageway, it also sounds if there is a 30mph camera anywhere in range. So your (legal) motorway driving is punctuated by deafening continuous beeps because you are 'speeding' in a nearby 30 zone. I doubt anyone will use this thing for long. The power plug is also badly designed and will almost certainly come out en-route. This is the only circumstance under which the Inforad will NOT generate an annoying bleep, and the upshot is you wont be warned of cameras anyway. Sorry, this item is lousy

    Does not work with PDAs
    review posted 05/05/2005 20:31:00
Beware, information on the Inforad.com web site indicates that this unit will also pass GPS data to PDAs with an optional cable. This is not the case, I have been informed by the UK distributor, that this is not available. If you think it can provide GPS data to a PDA running TomTom, through available cable, it cannot. It works fine as GPS Speed Camera Detector and will pass data to PC running Autoroute or similar.

Can't cope with the British weather

If you live in London - AVOID like the plague. Firstly you have register for it to be 'UNLOCKED', no anonymous Plug-n-Play here. Then I had this (unlocked) thing for weeks without it picking up a signal, their support services fob you off with the 'buy an aerial for extra money (£25+fitting) scam' and refer you to their FAQ which states: [Turn on your engine&wait stationary for 5 mins for it to acquire a lock] dabs=1000char limit I had this thing running for an HOURS off my laptop (stationary) in an open car park and no joy. Just as I convinced the Support (ahem-ahem) team that it was faulty, the weather improved and suddenly it worked perfectly without aerial. And yes, it non-selectively alerts you to cameras on both sides of the road. This device should not be marketed in a country whose weather it can not cope with. Buy at your own risk (the sun doesn't stay out for many months).

    Multi-function GPS thingie
reviewed by Stewbie. review posted 23/04/2005 21:24:00
Got this a few days ago because I live in an area with loads of cameras generating revenue for the camera operators and have found that it recognised all 8 cameras that I drove past. If this device only squealed whenever I approached a speed camera, then I'd consider it well worth the money. However, when you add to it the fact that I can use it with my tablet laptop, and it dynamically updates my position a couple of times a second in my mapping software, whist still squealing as I approach cameras, then I just can't believe how cheap it is... BUY ONE NOW before they realise just how popular this device is going to be, and put the price up!

A good value GPS system easy to use and install my only gripe is it missed a gatso camera at my local railway crossing the data base must be kept up to date for INFORAD to be 100% effective, buy it and you can add your own mobile camera points. overall the best value on the net.
