We stayed at the boatel which is funnily enough a boat on the river right next to the red light district... very resonable..

Went on exactly the same sort of thing a few years ago. We didn't pre book any accomodation and ended up marching around Amsterdam trying to find somewhere on a Friday night. There were 8 of us. The first place was two rooms with two sets of bunkbeds, one level underground with no windows (which one of the guys said was illegal!?!). We scrapped that after 1 night. The next one was some weird attic appartment with 8 peoples worth of bunkbeds all in one room! It was a shared shower situation and you ended up more dirty coming out of the shower than you did when you went in.

Still, a right laugh was had by all, and I managed to get off with this bird who worked in the diamond museum there. My PC fcuked up shortly afterwards and I couldn't find her email address again, so I never saw her again! Anyway, I digress.

I went back to Amsterdam last year with some mates (we all started our own company and decided that our Christmas do would be in Amsterdam), and noticed that the "window action" seemed to have quitened down quite a lot.

Funniest thing I saw the first time was this bloke negotiating with this fat old bird for shag, he'd got her down to the equivalent of £3 and was still bargaining hard! Bit cruel to her but it was funny.

So you're the slayer. You're prettier than the last one.

    You jammy git Tombott!!

How many are going and how long are you going for?

If you are going in the week with an early flight. Get the train to Central station in Amsterdam from the Airport. Loads cheaper than a taxi.

You can usually find hotels opposite the station on the main street towards the grasshopper and Teasers bar. go into a couple of these hotel booking shops. You can get good prices there. Have done this a few times and saves money on booking from England.

    Enjoint yourself :thumbs

You will have a brilliant time .... I always stay at The Bulldog Hotel (http://www.bulldog.nl) which is on the outskirts of the Red Light District and all of the main entertainment. Its very cheap, has recently had a million pound facelift and is full of people out to have a good time.

As Robbo says do NOT get a taxi from the airport as its a ripoff. The train works out to be about a tenth of the price. But watch out for the beggars and idiots when you get off at Central Station.

The kabul hostel in the red light district. Not far to stagger very very cheap and mixed rooms. I remeber waking up to see some naked bird off for a piss was nice ;-) about 15 euros a night
