To SoftMod or not to SoftMod ???

Recently got myself a new XBox as my old one packed up on me....

I have a 1.6 with a Samsung drive.....

My question is... what are the reasons against Softmodding ???
Why not as good as a hard mod and can it be undone....
I can easily rent one of the required games from blockbuster or choice and already got a mem card..

I would prefer this against hard modding just for not knackering my machine reasons and voiding the warranty e.t.c

Live is the only issue- softmod and it makes it pretty much impossible to play on XBox Live. It can be undone - some of the softmod installers will allow you to revert back to the original setup by backingup the files it replaces. Also it's worth noting that softmodding your xbox will probably invalidate the warranty anyway.
