I use an old Toshiba 200MHz Laptop (200MHz is the recommended highest spped by Joule I think) with great results.

Get hold of a slower cheaper Toshiba from ebay, I'm sure all will be OK for you then.

on a 233MHZ you will get problems reading a lot of the micro based units, you will also kill eg renault G5 units also just by reading them.
P2 166MHZ i recommend to use for a guaranteed read / write untill the pc speed problems are hopefully sorted.

if your using the latest software, it has been optimised for use with hi spec processors. but these unexplained problems like your having, seem to be random, and are giving joule some headaches.
some mother boards work perfect, others give problems

From memory john, there was a newsletter published to all customers making them aware of problems with certain bp radio's. you may have not recieved it or something.
i always keep an old 486 laptop handy incase i do ever get a G5 or another bp radio that gives me probs and the radio gets killed after a decode.

no i have not recieved any newsletter which was why i was asking the question on the forum. If joule are having problems with this latest software why are they still advertising it for sale when they know it might not be compatible for all systems?surely this is going to cause more problems as people are buying this thinking it works!!! until they get the fix this software should not be sold just my opinion thanks

If you read the information that is on the web site then you may notice this.........

The Advanced Package contains ALL currently available software to decode the majority of car radio equipment. Purchasing this system entitles you to receive the goods at a much reduced cost. The normal price for this package if purchased seperately would be in excess of £6000.00.
The kit is supplied complete with probes, data pods, all connecting leads, 12 volt power supply and comprehensive instruction manual.

Maximum suggested speed of P.C. 166MHZ

I must add that there is not a problem with any of the software, the unit has always been sold supporting only p2 233maximum pc's (i recommend P1 166 MHZ). The latest updates have tried to overcome the fast bus speeds and high spec pc's which are available. because of different mother boards etc joule cannot test this on every single system
