modem probs

I recently purcahsed a pc for my son, everything was working ok untill i put in a pci modem. Now everytime the pc boots up it keeps restarting itself. I have purchased a new modem on the offchance that it could be duff but still no joy. Any ideas ????

Operating system (New PC......I`d guess XP)?

Have you removed the modem?

Does it still try to reboot?

Anything else that may be relevant (rewards, treats, Beers)?

More details and I`m sure some kind soul will help!:thumbs

Im running windows xp proffesional, sempron 2200, when modem is removed the windows will boot, but when i shut down and plug in the modem it boots then will restart as soon as the windows comes on !!

have you tried a different PCI slot, sometimes it's the slot thats duff.

Also check the BIOS to see if there are any wake on modem settings, make sure they are off.

Tried all that guys still no joy, I've started up without modem, removed any modem what is in, turned off, inatalled modem and as soon as windows boots up and picks up the modem it restarts and keeps doing this over and over. Pull out the modem computer runs no probs

tried booting to safe mode with modem in?

i dont know too much but i was thinking maybe your psu(power supply) cant handle it ?
or maybe you could try downloading the drivers for it and install them first

i had the same problem when i upgraded to windows xp. i had to get an external modem and it solved the problem. seems some internal modems are not compatible with xp.
