PC Wont boot after fresh install...

OK me AGAIN!

For those who have painfully read through the mothers/kids PC saga it has a new twist!

My best mate collected the PC last night to do a fresh install/format etc... after the recent bout of virus's etc....

I'll tell you about the PC first,

Celeron 600
192 mb ram (i Know lol, i made it from spare bits)
30 GB HD
DVD Rom Drive
Built in graphics etc....

Previously it was running XP Pro with SP 1 fine until they contracted EVERY Virus under the sun!! So my mate collected it last night.

Done a full format to NTFS again as before. Stuck Nemesis 4 in, seemed to go OK, then selected the key programs, avast etc....

Re-boots PC, screen black, still black, erm still black.... ooooooh Jelly fish! Still Jelly Fish.... yep they dont appear to be doing anything, neither does the Hard Drive.....hmmmm.

No icons, no start button, no nothing. He claims he can't get into the bios/safe mode or anything?

Any ideas?

Do you get any POST beeps while it boots up? May be worth having a run round the interior and try reseating all the components like RAM and stuff. Hard drive cables etc...

I thought it copuld be the fact he installed Office, PHotoshop and other bits in the Nemesis install, could be trying to register all components etc... some maybe conflicting?

I installed all sorts off the Nemesis 4 install and haven't had any issues with it to be honest. The odd prog wanted registering after install on first use but only once it had got into Windows. I did use Office and Photoshop as well on my install and a shit load of other stuff as well mainly the bigger programs.

This is a second version of Nemesis v4, wonder if it's broken.......

But after initial install it went to the desktop screen OK. It was after a reboot it didnt?

It's difficult when it's someone else doing it for you, however he knows what he is doing.

Right further update.

Now appears that he can get to the desktop, create shortcuts etc.... but nothing will run when double clicked etc....

I personally think the HD is dead?

PC Beeps once. He says the screen takes an age to come on and he cant access the bios?

If you have the ports put them on separate cables that way you iron that one out.

Depends on the BIOS manufacturer as to what the codes mean.

Going to try a new HD. We've had enoguh experience over the years to know when to give up lol.

My mates gone on the lash now anyhow, so wont be until tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

If the HDD was dead, then you wouldn't be booting anything, let alone getting to the desktop.

Sounds more like a fucked up install to me.

Yeah but i've had HD probs before very similar. The HD gets to the main scree nthen just stops and refuses to load everything?

But the main concern at the moment is that he can't get into the bios. Now i'm sure he MUST be able to but unfortunately i cant try as i'm 240 miles away He still claims the screen doesnt come on until it's nearly booted to where it sticks. I have asked him to press f12 or del (whichever the bios key is) as soon as he hears the beep. Bloody amatures lol

I should be getting a loan of a spare used HD tomorrow (fingers crossed) and that might help identify the problem. Bloody PC's!

Its unlikley to be a duff hard drive if its getting to the main screen could be a duff install or a driver issue or a componant problem I also had this I'm sure its 1 of the oboard components on the mb.
post back how you get on as it help me revive a dead pc

ps I tried a alternitive hard drive myself out of desperation with no luck also I used nemisis 4

im with pegasus.. yer HDD is prolly fine, it wouldnt even make it to windows if it were the hard drive.

have you tried any other copies of windows rather than nemisis?

tell him to try F8 for his bios.

if that fails, tell him to fuck off and stop getting viruses and leave him to it

Lol, he's not the one getting the virus's it's the pesky kids!

I do have another Nemesis Disc I know works fine just some of the apps don't. I'll tell him to go back to an old version of XP Pro, then install SP1 and 2 manually.

He's going to disconnect the Hard Drives and then try to get into the bios.

Seem to be a few issues with people using Nemesis 4. I am very happy with the beast myself though there is some manual fecking around with some of the apps required.

Yeah I think he's going to try it without installing any apps. Failing that i'll go back to the first version of v4 I got, failing that back to Windows 3.1
