    Default photoshop problem :(

i was using the "pattern stamp" tool the cloning one to edit out some hair. I used to select the area to clone using "alt and left click". when alt was pressed a rubber stamp icon would be my mouse pointer, but now, nothing happens. i alt click and get the message "Could not define the pattern stamp because no pattern has been selected." as if the alt button is not pressed. Its doin me head right in. Anyone any ideas or should i just get shot of the bloody thing?

Karma to the ones who help

Are you using a pirate version or do you own the original copy? I don't know too much about the tool workings of PS but with my pirate version (I'm sorry I'm a cheap bastard) all of the shortcuts and some basic functionality has been disabled.

Simply pressing Alt will toggle from the selected tool to the cursor anyway, I think, so Alt has to be held down. It might be a problem with the keyboard?

Edit:- I've just tested it and for me the cursor only toggles on/off sometimes, other times the pattern tool just switches between paint and clone :nowords:

You don't say what version. All the dodgy copies I have had of 7, CS and CS2 have never had any functionality disabled.

I would suggest that you buy one of these so you won't have to edit the hair out of pictures.

Looks to me like you want to be using "clone stamp" instead of "pattern stamp".

To use pattern stamp you first need to define a pattern to stamp or use a pre-defined one.

Clone stamp you hold ALT and click to define the area, pattern stamp the pattern has to be pre-defined via selection or the defaults before you stamp.

Try pressing SHIFT+S to see if it changes to clone rather than pattern.
