    Default The Descent

just saw this yesterday and i thought it would be shit cos i never heard of it, but i was suprised, as soon as it started i noticed it was an english film, so i thought it must be good

anyway shit scary film, the basic plotline is a group of girls go on a caving trip or whatever it is and as they travel through, they get caved in and discover something else lurking in the dark, a race of monstrous creatures hidden from the light.

    film has a great ending

only bad thing is certain parts of cgi look fake

The characters weren't given any depth, I couldn't name any of them throughout the film and found it difficult to identify who was who.
    Spoiler:
The plot is pretty much the same as dog soldiers, just underground. Unlike dog soldiers though it lacked any humour or memorable lines, and as I said previously, no memorable characters.

It might get you if you are claustrophobic, otherswise not too scary.

    Spoiler:
There's no explanation of why the things are there or what they are, a bit like creep.

    I didn't understand the ending.

I watched a cam, which probably isn't a good idea for a film where it's about spelunking however I don't think I missed much.

5/10 - I think it would have got 4/10 if it wasn't a local film.

Watched this at the flicks a few days ago, enjoyed it, lots of jumpy moments and some pretty gruesome gore and action.
Good to see another British film doing well, also not too sure about the ending though.

Me & the missus watched the DVD last night, the 5.1 surround track pumped up helped the film a lot, with it being set underground, you could hear all the drips & echoes, very atmospheric, I think the idea behind the underground dwellers, without giving too much away, is, they developed a feeding method dating back thousands of years ago, whereby they would hunt prey via sound, catch it, & bring it underground to feed, hence no need for vision, & the larger ears, & the distinct lack of skin pigment, reminded me a bit like the Orks from LOTR.
To enjoy this film properly, you would need to at least see it on the big screen, or a retail quality DVD version, utilising a decent 5.1 surround sound setup, made all the difference in the world to me, took the same film to my sisters this morning & it was totally different on her 4:3 TV with built in speaker.
I'd give it 8/10, mainly for the fact it made the missus shat herself at least 6 times during the movie, especially when I was secretly notching the volume up during the film !!

This was a great movie until the girl turned into rambo, then it just lost any sense of suspense that it had until that point, although it's well worth watching for Natalie Mendoza alone

    I'd give it 6/10

Great film, watched it retail quality, can't really see how anbody can watch a cam, as most of the film is in darkness.

Liked the ending as it was different to the normal 'Happy ending'

9/10 extremely good movie, the rambo bit was the only way to go i thought. Would have been silly just to let all the beasties just run in and eat them all in a second.

Liked the baps on the female beastie though...lmfao

I thought the Descent was utter shite, the rambo shit at the end, the slow start, and the crap beasts.

The only bit that scared me was when she got stuck in the hole, between the two caves. very claustrophobic, and I near had a shit attack.

Perhaps the scariest film i've seen to date. Takes the crown that the Gremlins held for ten years in my view.

Agreed. I thought this film was el'crapo. I've been more scared watching Finding Nemo. The acting was shaftalish the animal baddy things in there were rubbish and where the fuck did those poles come from that went through the car windscreen right at the beginning? Maybe that weas meant to be extra weird to freak you out but personally I just thought the continuity was shite.
