    Help startup problem

    Hi ,

I have a laptop here that is really buggin me, windows is either loaded or just about to complete loading when the laptop just switches of as if someone had took the power lead out ,But if I start in safe mode it stays on no problems ,Could there be a problem with the config settings or something else? I would be most grateful for any kind of help.

    Thanks for reading

Can you give the spec/model of your laptop please?

After doing a little research it seems that the cause for this error is a problem with the mobo, you may want to upgrade you BIOS to see if it has been fixed. If its under warrenty then you might wanna consider sending it back for repair?

This error is known in most types of laptops, but specifically DELL and HP

I'm having trouble finding this problem with your laptop, plus the follwoing link keeps timing out on me at work:

Have a look and see if there is a forum or support section before you start looking at getting the machine repaired as they might suggest a bios upgrade that will fix it.

if it works in safe mode then it's either a software problem or a problem with a part of hardware which isnt active in safe mode, such as complicated features on a graphics card or an advanced power system that requires drivers or something else like that

you could find out if it is software by reinstalling windows, maybe keep an eye out for it happening again after you install each driver. if it doesnt start happening again then your old windows installation was fucked, so be it. if it does then think about what you installed since it started doing it, if its graphics drivers then its your graphics card, if it was sound drivers then your sound card and so on until you find out what is making it break - and that part will need to be replaced. since that part is probably on the motherboard, you'll probably want to buy a new laptop and sell your current one as spares and repairs.

definitly sounds like software to me though, good luck

hmm I would have most likely thought its a driver problem.

Safe mode does not load hardware specific drivers like GFX, Sound card, network etc.

I would start by a flat install of XP NO 3rd party drivers for any devices and see if it boots ok.
