Struggling to transfer files from my laptop.

I have just bought a new laptop and would like to transfer files from this to my PC using the ethernet ports. I wonder if anyone could give me a few simple instructions on exactly what I need to do. I have tried creating a Network between the 2 and somehow managed to get the message connected at 100Mbps , yet I could still find no way of transferring any files. Now after messing about with it I now have limited or no connectivity. Both the computers are running WindowsXP HE. Any tips would be most welcome.

to transfer files you will have to create a 'shared' folder , create a folder then right click it to get the sharing & security option.

As for the network connection have a look in the help pages of windows

Cheers for the reply, finally got it sorted. I had to install some services and/or protocol network components on the connections. After I did that then the network connection wizard did it;s trick and I can now see the shared folders on both computers
