</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- E IIMA -->Ahmed Ressam, the Algerian man convicted of plotting to blow up Los Angeles airport five years ago, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

He was arrested as he crossed the US-Canadian border with explosives on the eve of the new millennium. Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of 35 years as Ressam stopped co-operating with the authorities. Ressam was convicted back in 2001, but had not been sentenced as he had been helping the authorities.
