Left school with 2 gcse's, 1 in computer studies (the days of the commodore pet and teletypes) other in Tech drawing. Did a city + guilds in tv repair. Went on to drive forklift trucks for a few months, before landing a job with BT and studied machine code + Z80 assembly language, Couple of years later worked in a local pc shop, then various contracts around the country in support roles. Been a field engineer for siemens, HP, Dell and now working in server support team for a large car manufacturer in the midlands.

My advice for anyone seeking a first position in pc support, try for E.P.O.S contract or rollout work as they are very often well supported by the employer with manuals etc ( IE Siemens, every tech paper was supplied and they have a good team of techies a phone call away).

Do I enjoy my current work ? NO, it's boring so i'm selling the house and buying my own boozer, there's only so many times you can change a hdd and install an os before you get fed up of it!!!

i left school after stopping on in sixth form for a year, was gonna do the 2nd year but couldnt be arsed as i wanted to get a job and earn some cash. Had about 3 months off after finishing school and then went job hunting at my local job centre, about 3 weeks after applying for a couple of jobs i managed to land one, as an Insurance Consultant at a Brokers. A couple of years after that i got promoted to assistant manager, and i'm still here today slaving away doing a 9 til 5 on DF
Not bad considering i've been in the job for a little over 3 years

    Heres Mine,

Left school at 16 with ok Gcse's got an apprenticeship in the merchant navy messing with engines on big oil tankers whilst taking petrol between ports in europe , Away at sea was awesome but after my first 6 months at sea had to go to college in south shields (Newcastle) Beer and birds in the Toon were great but college was shit so kinda just didnt go and decided to join the Army instead.

Joined the army in 1998 was in the Reme as a vehicle mechanic for 5 years went to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. Loved the job and was quite good money but most of my workmates were nobs, They all think they are John Rambo and thought they had single handedly won all the conflicts on there own, Boring as fook too spent months sat around waiting for shit too happen and when it does its shite anyway (think Jarhead).

Fucked the army off and joined my uncles roofing company moved from Labourer/Brew Maker/Sweeper Upper to the office as a Buyer/Estimator/ Doing Everything Else My Uncle Cant Be Arsed Doing and i'm still there now.

Ok money, Own office with unwatched broadband access , Nice car with free petrol, Flexi-time

So i am pretty happy, now just gotta wait till my uncle fucks off to spain to retire so i can take over.

I dont have a job, but i have just finished work experience with this sexeh guy called harvey and ivan (harvey posts of this forum, dont know what title he goes under though). The work i did was a technician and i enjoyed the part when we all played spin the bottle together... ok... that didnt happen, but it would of made it even more enjoyable.

ps. criticism to Harvey is that he should play spin the bottle with the next years work exp.

    Amen

Started work as a labourer for 5 months for a building firm local to me, while I went to college doing Art & Design Intermediate..

College "finished" in 2001 where I went to work at a sports stadium here and i've took on all kinds of roles from the bottom upwards, as the company you work with has been what's been worth staying there! Glass collector, barman, waiter, supervisor, groundsman, bottling up, promotions office and currently doing accounts and other various bollocks in the office, the money is fine but I want something more challenging, this is getting too easy, i'm getting quicker at it without trying

Been trying to break into DJing for a year or two, mainly local parties so far and net radio! Hope to get somewhere this year as a residency as I know I can do better than at least some of the DJs in town here.

My Job story starts as production assistant then to stores/despatch, then promoted to Purchasing assistant, then promoted to Buyer with an approx spend of 1 million pa..

took a job change and went to Enginnering college where i did the BTEC NVQ level 2/3 in mechanical engineering and then got the City & Guilds... then for 5 years was a CNC milling & turning setter/operator, and now 3 of us have taken over a medium sized company producing mostly in the F1 industry. My main role is Inspection/production manager.. but get involved in buying/recruiting/sales/job loading etc etc.. a bit of eveything..

and i wouldnt change it for anything... i left the Fire service and always missed it, but wouldnt even go back to that now.. (plus get paid way way much more than firefighters now ..lol)

Well, after being unemployed for a bit i've got a job:

I'm an IT Application Developer for a company based near Cardiff.

Basically to get this, did GCSEs and got good grades (10 A*-B), A Levels (ABB) and then went off to University of Warwick where I studied Computer Science for 3 years. Graduated this summer with a 2:2 (maybe a bit too much partying at times), then looked for work. Was offered a support job but turned it down (plus it was living in the expensive shit hole that is bracknell) and then a month later this one came along

Edit- I found the job on cwjobs if it helps much. Excellent site for IT recruitment

screwed up my gcse so took em again in college passed 4 did a BTEC in Computer at College and then went to University and did a degree in Software Engineering, then in 1994 the internet took off and decided once I gradutaed from University would go into network/systems - not programming

thus when I graduated went to work for the 3rd largest company in the world on a 2 year contract, learn all about internet, servers, networking....

now work as a Project Manager designing servers for financial companies (based on Linux, Windows).. specialising in Lotus Domino/Wireless Networks and Windows Data Servers....

and also I do male modelling on a part time basis.. you may have seen me in magazines (not not adult ones. but like GQ)... just waiting for my 15 minute of fame....
