Intranet - Need Help

Hi Guys,

Have been giving the task of setting up the companies intranet, I have installed IIS on our NT 4 server and can log on to the default sample web page via the web browser, so everything is working as should pretty much ..

No my problem is I've never designed a intranet before, I've created web pages for myself and have used FTP and Front Page, and other applications, i've also setup OS Commerce by using PHP on my own web site, so I am a average Jo when it comes to the basics ...

Where I need help is in the design itself, basically I work for a law firm and need to design a general front page, and link to other pages (Departments) and have a few bells and whistles... ie: weather check, search option, latest news ...

The first attempt can be basic, anybody point me in the right direction on where I can take a look at a few examples.... I know there are Intranet in a box solutions, but I really want to build mine from the ground up .....

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated ..

brilliant help - all you need to know about building web pages

and as a word of advice - stay the hell away from frontpage

if you really want to use an editor, get a copy of dreamweaver, but i'd recommend learning more by hand coding in notepad / wordpad

if you are running IIS you'll have the option of using asp (or even asp.net if you configure the server with the .net components) as your scripting language
