I tend to stay away from packs, as some codecs can confilct which each other, causing piss poor playback and 'undesired results'. Just install the ones you need, as and when you need them. I have never needed anymore than 5 or so codecs to decode or encode anything anyway, so lord knows why you'd want all that bumpf above installed on your pooter.

    IMHO.

tbh I'd trust their ability over common myth or poorly setup packs, seeing as they have been making both the mega codec pack and the normal one for fucking ages and they regulary take in user feedback for their next update. you'll have to be pretty damn unlucky to receive any conflicts. Also I needed quite a few obscure codecs the amount of stuff I watch so this sort of pack is ideal.

Not at all mate, practically all large codec packs will cause problems somewhere along the line when encoding/decoding media.

Codec packs are nasty and do indeed cause problems for many people/setups.
Best option imho is to just install the latest DivX and Xvid codecs as these are the most commonly used. Then any media that refuse's to play properly should just be dragged and dropped onto good old V.L.C.

VLC will play practically everything without installing a single bit of code onto your system :thumbs

if you have windows media center, stay away from codec packs, as its more trouble than its worth, just get codecs for the video types you need
