All you need do is go and experience the ups & downs at someone elses expense. Try and get a managerial position in a pub for a few years, at least then you have the backing of the brewery if it all goes boss eyed.

Years ago one of my uncles had a big boozer in S.E. London, totally f*cked it up, closed down in 3 years. Giving out free drinks, getting p*ssed the whole time, staff dipping in the till...you get the picture. There's so many people who do this without getting any proper experience of the business side of bars/pubs/restaurants.
