    Default DVD Reader

ok heres my problem. my dvd reader is not working. when i press the button, nout happens. when i push the drawer in, nothing happens. it doesnt read, it doesnt open/close. wtf is wrong?

however, in my computer, right click cd drive and hit eject, it opens.

i was thinking maybe the power cable has came out somehow, and aside from opening her up and checking inside, wtf can i do?

The fact you can see it in explorer and that you can then eject it suggests that power is OK as if you had no power you would have no drive. This would also suggest that the data cable is OK as even if the power is OK and the data cable isn't you wouldn't see it in My Computer.

You could take the side off and reseat the cable on the motherboard and the drive and swap to a different molex connector for the power to ensure that these work OK.

I'd have a think about the age of it and the need to replace. A DVD writer these days is only about 30 quid so that may be the better way to go.
