    Help Azureus Help

Can someone tell me how to add a username and password to a torrent that you host yourself on Azureus' built in tracker? So that only the peeps I give this info to can connect?

I've ticked the boxes I think are relevant and typed in a username and pass, but peeps who have tested my torrents (using Azureus also) say they can connect fine with no password needed or even requested.

Does it only work if you publish a torrent to an external tracker?

    Thank you in advance.

I'm at work at the mo, so can't look. But IIRC it's just in 'options' then 'tracker'. Then there's a box you tick where you can add a username and password.

afaik private torrents* are only available when using a proper tracker not DHT

fusen, wtf are you on about? DHT has nothing to do with a private tracker.

hes on about hosting his own tracker/torrents.

    anyway, just tried options>tracker>server:

    tracker external ip: my ip
enable tracker on http port: ticked (6969)
enable passwords on tracker web: ticked
    enable passwords on torrents: ticked

username and password set. went to http://localhost:6969 and up popped a password entry box.

    easy peasy.

was talking in #azureus-users today and what I said earlier seems to be right, you can't set up passwords using DHT, only method is dont give the magnet link away

no one said DHT ever supported passwords. but dht has nothing to do with the private tracker he wanted to enable.

the distributed databse is mainly for finding peers of other popular torrents (who also happen to be azureus users, about 500,000 atm.) without ever needing to connect to a tracker.

the private tracker is a way to make a passworded webpage based tracker that lists the torrents you are seeding or have made. then u give the pass to the folk who you wanna give access.

they are 2 entirely different things as far as im aware.

I know what DHt is and afaics he wanted to use DHT instead of a proper tracker but he wanted it to be private which in the posts above include the ability to add a password. which I've already said and thought all along isn't possible

unless ofcourse I'm reading this wrong and he wants to setup a REAL tracker on his own pc, I take "Azureus' built in tracker" as DHT as thats what it is a built in tracker

I actually wanted it so that torrents using Azureus' embedded tracker required a password.

IE. When someone loads the torrent I have created into their Azureus client, it asks for a username and password before it allows you to connect.

Ticking the box for 'Enable password for tracker web' does indeed work for the web page tracker thing. But there is also a box labeled 'Enable password on torrents' which I thought would be such a feature.

a knwon working method would be to set up a proper tracker and then you could limit connections to certain ip's etc

ye, i dont think what your after is easily possible in azureus m8. its not that advanced yet tbh.

best bet is prolly just run a proper tracker. easier in the long run.
