Default What Version Of TOM TOM you use

Currently I use Tom Tom 2, on my Dell Axim X5 PDA.

I have the full UK map installed on a SD card, but have a lot of trouble finding road names.

When I get to the location its listen but just wont search under it.

Also is it true tom tom 5 ( being sold on Ebay for £10 ) has a post code search built in?

I have the speed cameras loaded onto TT2, thinking of upgrading the lot to TT5, if its easier ?

    Whats you guys think

tomtom 5 can be made to do full 7 digit postcode search by adding one folder to your device (some installs already have this) It works very very well too. As for your speedcamera databases, there are several 'releases' of tomtom 5 that have them pre-installed.

I use TT3 because I cant get to reconise my GPS. I have had a quick look at 5 and there are some improvements but alot of good features have been removed, I think the best option would be to get the updated TT5 map working on TT3, I just need to work it out how.

I got mine from ebay, came to about £110 including postage from a UK seller. have bought about 6 tomtom GPS receivers from him in the past so he is 100%.

I was originally thinking about getting this one:

    http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/bt338.php

It features the SIRF3 chipset and I've seen them on ebay for around the £90/£100 mark but in the end I decided on the tomtom mkII receiver since it was only going to be a couple more quid. I did have the old tomtom mk1 receiver and couldn't really fault it but sold that so I decided to stick with what I know and got the updated mkII one instead. The mkII is smaller in size, has a bigger battery life and is definitely faster at getting a signal when you first power it up and so far so good with no signal drops or anything. My older tomtom mk1 GPS was pretty stable but the mkII with the SIRFIII chipset is a 20 channel device and it seems rock solid.

i know that tomtom mobile 5 is compatible with pretty much all GPS units but the earlier versions of the software did have several compatibility issues with non-original GPS units (until the software was cracked). Either way when tomtom decide to upgrade I think I should be ok with compatibility in the future or at least I hope I will (or until they crack the software to work with all GPS units).

Hope you manage to get one because in general this GPS navigation stuff is amazing ! It has to be one of the better things I have bought and trust me I do buy and own a hell of a lot of stuff and this is definitely one of the best and worth every penny.

Nice. Like I said I was really tempted to buy that one but in end just settled for the tomtom mkII one. The one you have got has had some rave reviews so I'm sure it is excellent. Let me know how you get on with it. Think I'll recommend that one to any of my friends who want to buy a GPS receiver. :thumbs

    @ BLUTO141

Cool ya got it all sorted mate. When I first got mine I was using it everywhere - even to places I knew how to get to but going different ways just to get it to recalculate to see if it knew where I was going and trying to piss it off

I just wish the mkII receivers had the non-slip stuff on the underside or a magnetic base both of which the mkI receivers had. But I guess the superfast response makes up for it. I've even had mine picking up a signal and working fine in my glovebox.

Cheers for the karma m8 and glad you're happy with your purchase !!

Nice to hear that all of you appreciate your TomTom's and reccommend them. I am looking at getting one myself but my routes are dictated by bridge heights due to hgv driving. Is there software for this available and whats the best way of getting set up at the cheapest cost?
    Cheers
