Default What do you recomend to put this on my XDA IIi

    Hi

I have never used Tom Tom before and currently have no SD card. All I have is a XDA IIi which I believe can run this software.

What size SD card should I buy ? ( im guessing 1 gig)

And then what would be a good Sat Signal thing (very technical I know )

Also has anyone used this prog with this phone, and how di they get on ?

    Cheers

    Dan

as mentioned in my other posts, I have tt3 running on an orange SPV m1000 very similar to your xdaII

works fine, you only install the map on the memory card and the GB map for 3 is just over 100MB I use a 512MB and store a few other things on it.

GPS I have a Holux GPSlim 236 there are problems using tt5 as the com port settings for the bluetooth dont work properly on the m1000/XDA/Qtek2020 you get comports 4 or 5 and tt5 wants 6 great ehh? but tt3 works fine. you could ry the older Holux 231 gps the price should be more reasonable now but I know people who use the cheap onces from ebay without problems.

    Cheers for the replies guys.

    What is a MMC ?

The sandisk 1s, what size is that ?

I am downloading ttn5 complete its about 1.7gb so Im a bit uncertain as to whether this would fit on a 512. Thinking about it Im not sure what maps this will include, it could be the US I will see later.

I am trying to keep the price down on doing this, so I would much prefer a 512, and a cheaper sat decode.

    Cheers

you can get the tomtom 5 app and british map on a 128MB SD card, thats what I run tomtom on in my XDA 2i, so that size or bigger is ok

I have a seperate SD card for all my other apps as tomtom was getting random lockups when it was on the bigger 1GB card.

Well I have done a bit of research

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/view...2&highlight=sd

and it looks like a Kingston Elite Pro SD is the best for a XDA.

Managed to get a 512 MB SD from :-

    http://www.epcbuyer.com/products.asp...gston-SD/512-S

For £27.90 including VAT and P&P which I think is a bargain.

Now to pick a Sat thing.

Dont be afraid of recommending anything

    Cheers

if you can afford it then get a TomTom one or one of the other brand names like Holux. dont waste money on a cheap receiver IMO as you will probably go through a few of them if used regularly.

They both have batteries in them, if you get a decent GPS you will have a good battery life with it. your PDA should last about 3-4 hours with bluetooth and tom tom running as I found out when I drove to Thetford from manchester and the battery amost died. but the GPS was fine about 10 hours.

I am lucky as my car has 2 12V outlets in it but I also use a radio transmiter for my mp3 player and only ever have the PDA powered. my new PDA SPVm500 and my GPS both charge from a standard USB cable ao I only need 1 cable now.

you can get socket doublers I think from halfords and proberbly ebay whihc i havnt checked

I have copied the folder to the root of the SD card, but its say no maps found. I have tried copying both in the folder, and have extracted all the files from the folder, so they are in the root.

    Any ideas ?

Do you normally install TTN5 to your device or onto the SD card, the main prog that is.

Cheers Bluto141, will reinstall onto the card when I get home.

Shame it takes so long, might try just installing the prog first and leaving the maps on the card.

Well I have re installed TOMTOM onto my SD card.

The DVD i downloaded was the benelux version. The loader prog enables you to install the benelux map. I have done this and this works fine.

I cant get the GB map to install. I have downloaded 2 versions and neither work (although I think its me).

I have copied the Great_Britain_Plus-Map onto my SD card, it sits next to the benelux map.

If I go to switch map in prefs it does not show me any other maps.

I cant believe i have got it working but without the UK on it.

    --------------

I have now got my gps and still cant get the Uk map to load.

The instructions are in dutch it has this in one folder.

"Copieer de TTN.CAB en TTN.INI bestanden naar de root waar je tomtom5 hebt geinstalleerrd.

Als je dus TTN5 op je card hebt geinstalleerd dan copieer je bovestaande bestanden op je card.

    Klik daarna op TTN.CAB

    En je TTN5 is ge-update."

Which babelfish informs me is :-

"Copieer the TTN. cab and TTN. ini files to the root where you tomtom5 have geinstalleerrd. If you have therefore TTN5 your card geinstalleerd then copieer your bovestaande files on your card. Click afterwards on TTN. cab And you TTN5 are ge-update."

Did anyone else have to do this ? These extra files are in a folder called TTN5_Gracioso_v3 any idea what that is ?

I really want to sort this out.

    Cheers

    Dan

Also if anyone knows of a site where I could get a english version of the nfo file that may help.

    Release Notes
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To get the best results follow these steps.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    1. Un-install Tomtom (whatever version) you currently use.
    2. Check your Pocket PC to delete everything that refers to Tomtom, after you
have un-installed the earlier version. ( I use Total Commander with a Windows
CE plugin to gain access to my PPC main memory and storage device).
    3. Reset your Pocket PC
    4. Install the Bakonl version.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It could well be that you have to re-install your maps, because TT5 Bakonl
release cannot find them. Don't worry that your going to lose your favorites,
just copy/paste them to another location on your desktop, to be moved after you
have re-installed the map you want. If you used to have TT ver 3, locate them
on your PPC, copy/paste them to your desktop PC, reinstall your map and copy/paste
them to the directory were your current map located.

After your done, reset again and you're ready to start using it.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leaving versions 3 or 4 on your machine and using the Bakonl to upgrade (update)
will result in software failure or a application that will crash or does not run
    properly.

It seems the Bakonl version can handle all Tomtom maps, be it from TT5 Mobile,
TT5 nav for PPC or TT Go. The often in some groups found plus-maps seem to be
originating from TT Go 500. All other maps from version 4 including the part or
section maps will also work. For the US and Canada maps applies the same.

Instead of installing maps using Activesync, you should consider to copy/paste
the map you want, using a cardreader. Sometimes Activesync does not work like it
should and your newly installed map does not work.

No need to ask me about Bluetooth, I now nothing about "Settings and How to" as
I use a simple wired antenna.

Just my five cent worth. PO

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Install Notes
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just unrar and burn to a cd using your favourite burner software, run and
    install.

This version includes the map of the Benelux. Do as you please, install it or
don't and install whatever map you want. It's up to you.

Better go get me a SD card reader then.
