It's not a simple right or wrong matter in this case - it's the fact that the authorities in New Orleans decided that rather than save the lives of those caught up in the tragedy they choose to defend property.

To reverse your question would you have rather the emergency services spend their time dealing with looters or saving the life of your child/wife/mother/gran ? You believe dealing with looters is more important than saving your childs life ?

"He jumped up on the truck's windscreen and they shot him dead," Mr Banka said.

Another man died in mysterious circumstances on Friday as a police car passed the New Orleans Convention Center, where equally squalid conditions forced many to sleep outside among streets full of rubbish.

More than 24 hours later, his body, like so many others, had not been moved.

"Right where he fell," Larry Martin told the Los Angeles Times. "Like roadkill."

On Saturday morning Africa Brumfield, 32, sat with relatives near the corpse of a young man in streets around the convention centre.

He had died on Friday night as he walked in the street.

"There is rapes going on here. Women cannot go to the bathroom without men. They are raping them and slitting their throats," she told Reuters.

The emergency services are helping as best they can and some gangs of people are shooting at them, dont turn this around to be something it isnt..

We could keep giving scenerios for the crisis but we arent the ones living there, can you imagine being there for 3 days..no food or water, watching all this devastation thinking soon it might be you and you're family then you manage to be rescued only to have your wife raped and then killed... I don’t think people looting should be shot (people need to do what they can for food and clothing) but rapists and murderers need to be bought to order and justice I mean this in both sides of the law as I read on the bbc the national guard ran shot a teenager for getting in the way of there lorry.
There needs to be common order the blame should be point on the people that are in power to prevent an d have plans in place for these situations. People need to stop the bickering on if people are being racist and whatnot 9 i.e. Kanye West, and do what they can to resolve it, it helps NO ONE if you throw more stress into this situation at the moment.
These Issues and the causes of this catastrophe can be resolved once as many people have been saved and helped.

"What we have seen in the city is disastrous."
