Check the threads at the top of this forum which has loads of sites. And it is better if you use your number... gives a better idea of potential speed. The only truely accurate test can be done by an ISP...

I think the BT website has a test you can run and check what speeds your line will be able to handle. They will most likely use the distance from the exchange to calculate this.

As nitricacid4k pointed out, enter your phone number and postcode HERE then click on the BT ADSL button and it will give you your approx straight line distance.

This is still pretty useless though as the cabling could run all round the houses and be twice as long as the distance it reports. The best way to estimate what you can get is via your line stats.

    Tried mine and got this:

You are approximately 185 metres from the exchange (straight line distance)

well see the distance then look at a local map and follow the roads to your house, samknows is showing direct A-B, the copper cable isn't going to be doing this, it'll be following the roads

BT will be starting to put DSLAMS into the green cablinates and on polls soon - this will reduce ranges from exchange requirements and allow for greater speed.

Unfortinalty inital plans for this are only for remote areas.
