Default Trip to New York, ideas on what to do needed

I'm off to new york for a long weekend with my girlfriend at the end of the month, besides staying in the hotel room for 5 days :whistle, we could do with some other things to do.

We've booked a habour cruise so far, and I wouldn't mind going to see niagra falls, she wants to go to the zoo. Anyone got any recommendations ?

Try "The View" restaurant and cocktail bar at time square - revolving bar/restaurant at the top of one of the hotels - not cheap but different.

View from Empire State Building is fantastic.

Although the falls are in New York State (or part of them) - they're a long old way from New York City - how were you planning on getting there?

Forget the falls mate. Thy suck... Like Blackpool with a huge waterfall..

We are off in mid oct.. Things on our list are..

Ice hockey game, Zoo, Central Park, Circle line tour, ground zero (I'm a fireman and taking a souvenir from my station to the boys over there), Macy's, Hogs and heffers(quality night out), Staton island ferry, plus a few other shopping trips..

Found this on my search... Top 10 things to do in NY

    Or try Googling it...

    Hope that helps.

US side of niagara falls is crap. I've worked near there before. The canadian side is better so if you do go take your passport and walk across the bridge, if I recall there is a nice casino over there.

You can get on a boat at the falls called maid of the mist and basically get soaked as well.

If you like steak then hit Peter Lugers (http://www.peterluger.com/), the Tribeca district is great for a night out espeically if you like a decent restaurant. Afternoon tea at the Plaza and a jaunt round FAO Schwartz is always a good idea too.

If you've only got 5 days just stick to Manhattan mostly. Though 5 days can't really do Manhattan justice anyhow. Go to the Empire State Building at night, the lights and the cityscape are incredible. Take a boat trip from battery park that takes you past the statue of liberty, Ellis Island and up the Hudson to Brooklyn and back. It's a good way of seeing how the city's tied together. A boat trip and ground zero could be done in one afternoon as they're relatively near to one another.

I spent the majority of my time getting pissed in bars. Greenwich Village was, I found, the best part of Manhattan to get drunk. Plenty of live music, a variety of bars, friendly staff and some fucking horribly strong cocktails.

Soho is great for shopping for clothes, Little Italy is a bit rubbish but there are plenty of restaurants, just don't expect an italian restaurant to be actually run by italians. China Town is good for a laugh but watch yourself around the periphary as it's a bit rough down the one end.

Brooklyn is supposed to be great but I didn't get to go there. Queens is horrible, a real ghetto and Harlem by and large is much the same. Statten Island and New Jersey are supposedly interesting if a little suburban. Like I said, with less than a week your best bet is to concentrate your activities around Manhattan and possibl0y Brooklyn which is just over the Brooklyn Bridge (which is worth a look). It's the greatest city in the world.

although those open top tourist buses are a bit naff, they could be worth a look as u can hop on and off them as u like, nd they go past all of the main attractions.

Museum of Modern Art is magnificent, Empire State building is great, and as you are taking the Missus, you gotta go to Macy's and Bloomingdales :whistle . And for somewhenre nice to drink and watch some sport try Deweys bar in the Flatiron district on 5th avenue (near Madison Avenue). this is their website http://www.deweysflatiron.com/deweys.html

It is a great place, many a night I have been in there and not remembered leaving

You also need to try SOHO and Greenich village for some great little bars and resteraunts and wierd arty type shops etc.... Basically in my opinion NYC is the best coty in the world, enjoy it and I am certain you will go back again and again,.
