righty. steamin on a friday night & someone mentions somethin which reminds me of a movie I watched as a kid. Can you help me remember the name of it ?

1. 80's/early 90's
2. Kids built a space(time?)ship/machine of some kind
3. i'm sure there's a basement involved in the movie as a hideout/workshop
4. i'm sure there's a computer involved which possibly is answering questions the boys ask

ANyone even point me roughly in the right direction? All i can say is its not flight of the navigator.. and now i'm drawin a blank.
