    Default "six year old" Quiz

I was in the car with my sisters 6 year old kid on saturday and got bombarded with questions. I managaed to answer most of them... but here are the ones that stumped me. See how you get on!

    1) What does the "HP" stand for in "HP sauce" ?

    2) Why do weathervanes usually have cocks on them (no jokes please)... why was this animal orginally chossen?

    3) What does the "CC" stand for in "CCTV"?

    4) What DOES the "TIR" stand for on the back of trucks... and why do they sometime have a black line through the TIR?

    5) Finally, the sky was full of contrails (the trails left by planes) there were loads of them. How come you can see loads of them today?
(It was sunny with blue sky with a few white clouds, car temp was showing 17 degree's)

    2. Funnily enough it stands for Houses of Parliament. Again googled:

    3. Closed Circuit

    4. Don't know exactly what the initials mean, but it means they're exempt from something.

    Edit: Googled TIR:

THOUGH SIMPLE IN TECHNOLOGY, the weathervane has no humble past. In 48 B.C., the first documented weathervane flew atop "THE TOWER OF THE WINDS", the base of which still stands near the Athens Acropolis. This cast bronze image of the god Triton was between 4 and 8 feet long. Other weathervanes of the time include a copper horsemen in Syria, a human figure in Constantinople, and another Triton in Rome. The Vikings replaced their fabric flags with metal quadrant weathervanes on their ships in the 9th century, and by the 10th and 11th centuries, weathervanes had made their way onto Scandinavian churches. But it was the papal edict in the 9th century that brought the weathercock to Europe. This symbol was to recall Peter's betrayal of Christ (LUKE 22:34) "I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me", and so the cockerel was installed on every church in Christendom. Although only the symbol of the cockerel was required by the edict, the motif, it seems, was quickly wedded with the weathervane. These early weathercocks did not include cardinal letters, as Christian churches always lay east to west. The oldest weathercock still functioning in England resides here in Devon, flying atop the church in Ottery St. Mary, and dates from about 1340.
