Help dvdrom and rw not detected help noob alert!

    Hi all!

the noob is back! a mate needed to borrow my dvd rw so i took it out of my pc and everything was fine i reset the jumpers back to what they were and plugged it in as it was b4.
i was about to burn a dvd when i realised that neither the dvd rom drive or the rw are shown in my computer. both drives open and close though (dont no if that makes a difference) i opened my pc and had a look and realised or so i thought that the reason it wasnt working was the IDE cable that connects the 2 drives was not plugged into the motherboard so i plugged it in, then when i turned on the pc it stops at detecting ide drives and wont boot up.
ive tried using a different ide cable but the same thing happens!

as i look back at it now i realise i was a wally to take it out in the first place but hindsight is a great thing eh!

is there some setting that only i can miss or have i done something wrong or is it all just broken lol?

    please help and be gentle

    cheers!

have you plugged the IDE cable in the right way around?

also definatly checked the jumper settings are correct, i.e. master and slave?

they'll open and shut becuase they've got a power source. You'll need to check on your BIOS (Del@ startup if it's not shown) to see if the drives are installed correctly before you boot windows.

thanx for quick reply mate! yeah jumpers are correct dvd rom set to master and dvdrw set to slave.

i think the cable is the right way round it doesnt fit the other way

what am i lookin for when i go into bios? just that they are shown or will it say if theres a prob? also i didnt fiddle with the bios settings when i took the drive out would they have been altered?

    cheers!
