Default What pictures changed your life and the world ?

Saw this on other forums and thought it'd be interesting to see what pictures/photos stopped you in your tracks.

The ones that changed the world, and will be with you forever as defining moments.
Without being morbid or political which ones will you never forget ?

    For starters;

I was standing about 5 coloums left of the picture:|

I'm sure this will apply to many, I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when this happened and I'm sure I allways will.

    Again, the same.

That was just soo horrific and hope I never EVER witness anything like that again...There also the one with the people jumping from it before it collapsed,
That was probably even more horrific....

9/11 for me as well as the images on tv and the internet of the hostages in Iraq being beheaded gutted me as well. These where strong images and because of this they stuck in me head.

The 911 incident is by far the most horrific incident in my life to date, and I too hope never to go back to such a dark day.

I remember at the time feelin lost and wondering what this new idiot of an american president would do to respond.....as he had no idea of foreign policy. This combined with the fact that I now had a 3month old son, just led me to belive that the world had entered a dark chapter, and without restraint all our worse fears could be realised.

Yes four years have passed, my boy has started school, however I still feel the world is a pretty sad place, where people can still blow themselves up and others in the name of a god. And where so called super powers can hold men and women without trial in cuba, for years on end. When will this stop? I hope its when everyone agrees that nothing is going to be gained by the tragic death of an innocent who was just on his daily business.

Just wish that the world could wake up and see the wrong that we do to each other.....right now kids are dying in pakistan, because of the earthquake, and lack of shelter. Yet we can't give up a couple of helicopters in Iraq and afgan because of insurgency troubles.

As always its the weaker members of society who pay the price and will continue to do so.

I wish it could be live and let live.

911 opened by eyes to the differences in the world, ignorance would have been bliss.

    nice post TheDriver!

Got to be 9/11 for me too was at college half day came home put on the telly to find the same thing on every channel then read the head lines and ma heart juts sunk ! could not believe it.

And to hear the DJ Sammy 9/11 tribute song that was made up just brings a tear to my eye.

Also another thing was Princess Diana's tragic death

    And interesting to read
Erupting on April 26th, 1986, the reactor spewed radioactive material for miles, making many nearby cities ghost towns, and people will never be able to live within a good 50 miles of the site, but it was never wholly abandoned. Bizarre though it seems, the nuclear plant continued to operate long after Reactor No. 4 erupted. Reactor No. 2 was closed in 1991 after a fire, though one which didn’t release any radioactive material. Reactor No. 1 was switched off in 1996. Reactor No. 3, housed in the same building as the gutted Reactor No. 4, supplied power to Ukraine until December 2000. Standing within 4 miles of the concrete and lead encased site still exposes you to well over 60 times the recommended radiation levels for cities.

the 9/11 and london bomb pics were the obvious ones for me as they are still so recent in the mind.
the 9/11 pics also mark the start of many horrific things of late.

but beekae your second pic did spring to mind for some reason.

    oh and 5-1 over germany....marvelous

Have to agree with Bert and the pic of Belsen, these types of pics are by far the most powerful i have ever seen.

Althought the pictures of 9/11 and the London bomings are powerful pictures they don't show the suffering of the people involved for obvious reasons, where as the concentration camp pics show the suffering first hand.
