What to get for my first car?

Ok im 17 at the start of next year, and am starting to look about for my first car, so i though i would ask for any recomendations.:nowords: It sounds alot, but i need sommit resonabley reliable for its age, with cheep and easy to obtain parts. also would like a sporty model if there was one with a smallish engine. looking to spend less than a grand.

Peugeot 306 DTurbo (biased as I have one! :tongue)? Only group 5 insurance, looks reasonably sporty, most parts dirt cheap, and 40+ mpg!

Corsa, Defo......or a 106, nah just go for the corsa, can get 55mpg or maybye some more(when driving arround in 5th gear

Dont go Fiat

Honda is a good bet, same as any vauxhall

For first car you want a common car = cheap parts etc

I would say, corsa, fiesta, old mini, fabia, clio. Anything small is normally good as a 1st car.

old mini, cheap as chips plenty of cheap spares, drives like its on rails and feels like its fast even when it isnt, best is its cheap to insure and run and there are plenty of custom bits you can get for them if you want to look like a prick in it.

I'd go for a Fiesta or a 106.

hummm, quite like the fiesta, tonnes about aswell. 106gti to expensive, im going on my mums insurence so can afford to get a "sporty" model just. im off to have a look about

Go for a corsa m8 or a fiat seicento sporting (abrath) only group 2/3 for the old insurance and pritty nippy too

Go for a little corsa or a VW golf or polo. You want something thats solid and reliable and also is in the lower insurance and tax bracket.

not getting a fiat, quite unreliable when they have a few miles on them, mini would be nice, but im not the smallest of people. Will peob end up with a corsa or a fiesta, lots to pick from

Go for a corsa m8! Good cars, reliable, and parts arn't too expensive! (I got one for my first car, still have, but I cant drive it now! It's all the way up in Aberdeen!

I really can't believe people are recommending corsa's. I had 2 as hire cars (for a month each time) and nearly lost it on serveral roundabouts as they handle shit. I am basing my opinions on a 1.2 12valve and a 1.4 16v both were shite. Also the interiors of these were so poorly put together that it made the saxo vtr I had at the time look like a bently in terms of quality. Don't get me wrong, the saxos interior is not good but I was suprised things could get worse when I stepped into the corsa.

Personally I'd go for a 106 or a Saxo, my girlfriend had a 1.1 106 and thought that it was nippy enough for her needs and gripped the road ok. Essentially they are the same car with different badges.

humm, saxo abit out of my price range i think, 106 looks good though, still looking, just needing to get the dolla together, am in no rush anyway
