Go for a Prelude 4th Gen

You can get 2.0 or 2.0VTEC that are pocket rockets, quiet cheap to insure.

Now, a lot of people will call these hairdressers cars.... it all depends on the year and the colour. If you get a late one... 1999/2000 in a decent colour, red, black, blue etc.. they look really nice.

They are 170 BHP (Standard uk model) and JAP Turbos can be anything from 250bhp upwards depending on setup and mods.

Its not that bad on petrol either.. but I wouldn't say its super fast.. it'll keep up with a lot of things though. and it really kicks in over 5k

You can pick a low milage one up from a dealer for about 8k - 10k or a well looked after one with average miles for about 5k. (try www.imoc.co.uk for owners club members who can point you in right direction for good sellers).

    Group 16 means cheap insurance.

And Bomb proof engines mean unrivaled reliability. Parkers gives it 5* for reliability, but a bit harsh on the rest

sticks to the road like Glue, and lots of fun.. especially the T-BAR in summer.

Yes I've got one. and I'm not a puff.

Hi mate, think you will find fast and cheap to run do not go together. If you want a quick car expect the running costs to be higher than your average car. It depends on what you think is quick? Cars with turbos and the like are going to drink more fuel and have higher maintenance costs.

Saddly there isnt much of a trade off. People have been asking the same thing for years. I want a really really fast car but it must be cheap to run. I am afraid its not gonna happen. Its getting better but still a long way off yet.

Like i say it depends what you define as quick, you can start your trade off there.

Taking the smart roadster you mentioned as an example that will be fairly cheap to run but for being quick id look at other cars. Thats just me though depends what youve been driving before.

    hope it helps

I reckon anything from VAG (Volkswagen family) carrying the 1.8 Turbo engine. Nice list to chose from, including the Golf Gti, Audi A3 1.8T Sport, Seat Leon Cupra, Skoda Octavia VRS and a couple others.

Another nice little shifter is the Skoda Fabia VRS, it uses a 1.9 Turbo Diesel with 130BHP, real little pocket rocket. Had me off in my dad's Volvo 850 T-5 with ease. Plus it's a diesel and a Skoda so can't imagine it being too costly to run.

I really liked these sat in 1 once but legs where pushed together and head was touching interior roof. Unbelievably uncomfortable.
