    Default Tinned Hot Dogs

Okay, not so much of a whine here, thought i'd refrain from posting it in the Dog and Duck.

Just had a couple of Princes hot dogs, the kind you get in a tin in brine. Ate them both and thought "hey! they were pretty nice! and dirt cheap!" later on i was lookin at the tin and glanced at the ingredients to find they were "56% mechanically recovered chicken" i knew it sounded dodgy lol for a start i never expected a hot dog to contain chicken! so off i go to google...only to discover...

"Mechanically recovered meat is meat residue which is left on the carcass after all the prime cuts have been removed. It is pressure-blasted off the bones by machinery and forms a reddish slurry which resembles mince. Some companies then use it to bulk up their meat products. Experts say it is likely that bits of spinal cord - the part of a cow most likely to be contaminated with BSE - could be found in mechanically recovered meat."

The hot dogs contain 56% of this shite!!

    :nono

I nearly f-cking threw up!! last time i buy that crap thats for sure!

    LMAO!

You should've watched Jamies school dinners, he whipped some up for the kiddies, suprisingly enough they didn't want to eat it either

The next ingredient on the list is Water, then Pork (only 11%) so im assuming theres more water than there is pork?

Here's a photo of the offending item so you can make sure to avoid it at all costs

The list of ingredients in all their glory

I think i should make use of this aswell lol

Thats what worrying about it, they're made up of more than 50% of the all the shite thats left on a chicken, yet you'd never guess it was chicken at all, and they actually tasted quite nice when i ate them lol

this was a food off my list a while ago but now I know the process i'll be sure to share next time someone thinks that a 79p (or whatever) hot dog from ikea is a good price. I think i'd rather have testicals in them than what you described!
    I'm new to this

The biggest thing that pisses me off with tins of hotdogs is that they come in tins of 8, where the hot dog baps come in packs of 6

If they tasted ok then my advice is dont read the ingrediants , and for whats in a tin of these hot dogs then 56% is only a small amount of "mechanically recovered chicken" (can you get BSE from chickens ?) and to be honest ive seen what goes into proper sausages and its alot more yuckky than mechanically recovered chicken, atleast it is chicken and not eyes brains and whatevers left of the head of the animal :nono

yuck, although it isnt good, i think burner has a more worrying point, you have to buy 4 packs of rolls, and 3 tins of hot dogs before there are enough off each . they are nice though, it dont bother me what in them, people have been eating the things for long enough, if it was that bad, it wouldnt be sold.

the secret to that is as follows...

buy a double pack of buns (12) make your 8 hotdogs leaving 4 buns

split the 4 buns in half lengthways and bang them in the toaster untill they just start to brown

spread a little pizza topping, ham or a couple of slices of pepperoni and grated cheese on top and bung them under the grill till the cheese browns and bubbles.

8 mini "french bread style" pizzas

takes about 10 mins and is great for kids or as munchies, but dont leave them to go cold as unlike pizza you cant eat it cold cos the bread just goes stale.

Sounds like a damn good idea ABCMan, must try that, sounds tastier than the hotdogs themselves!

i am not here to give cookery advice, i'm a terrible cook, but because of that i'm good at testing things and seeing if they are edible.

some stuff works, some doesnt but at least its usualy just a little different than normal (even if based on something perfectly normal) although a lot involves stuff like spices / chilli (hides the fact the meat got burned) or leftovers (ie the bits i didnt ruin in the first place)

If yer into fine hotdogs, either buy the ones in a Jar - 4 in a jar can't remember the name, big fat numbers - or go to Lidl and buy the bags of Bratwhurst sausages - whack a few of them under the grill, or on the barby and stick em in yer large hot dog rolls - fucking gorgeous. Peel the skins if don't like the hard skin - do it after they cook though.

ABC - can we PLEASE have a cookery section - come on, loads of us on here are mini Gordon Ramsays (fuck, bollox, shit, bastard, wank - see) and need a place to share flower and water with other like minded individuals
