    Default Mac key question

Just about had it with pl*snet as of the 1st of nov 2005 they have introduced a 15gb per month cap tho usenet connections bot ports 119 & 8000 so i said i want out of my subscription but they want £251 to get my mac key released.

If i choose not to pay then will that stop me from getting another ISP as the wont release my mac key until they are paid up?

I have been witht them for a month and i know that it`s an annual contract so does that mean that i cant get another ISP until my account is closed properly?

    Yours totally fed up.

    From pl*snet !!!!!

We are implementing some improvements to our Usenet service from today (Tuesday 1st November) which will improve the experience for customers using our Usenet servers. In parallel we are implementing some changes to the way we prioritise Usenet traffic in general, which should mean an improvement in speed and reliability for the majority of customers over the next few weeks.

Usenet network traffic is currently classed as ‘bronze’ for most of our customers and runs at a low priority across our network. This combined with heavy usage has caused some customers to receive a slow service at peak times.

From 1st November Usenet traffic from our servers and from external providers (e.g. Easynews and GigaNews) will be prioritised into our ‘silver’ profile which should provide a faster service for the majority of customers. In order for this to be sustainable as traffic profiles grow, this prioritisation will apply to the first 15GB that customers use per calendar month.

After customers have used more than 15GB on Usenet, the traffic priority will move to a lower level until the end of that month where the level will be reset again. There is no cap or overall limit on the traffic to our Usenet servers, or on the protocol itself. 99% of customers used less then 15GB of Usenet last month.

In addition to the introduction of 15GB of prioritised traffic we are reducing the maximum number of threads on our Usenet service to be 4 per customer. This should have no significant impact on your experience but will reduce the utilisation on our platform which will protect the service so that it is more reliable for everyone.

if you are on bb+ this may be of interest to you
taken from plusnet faqs about idle timeouts which they are going to be
    implementing soon
    9. Can I opt out of this?
We have taken the feedback from customers on board and are currently developing an opt out facility. This will be available from the end of November 2005, though we are sure that you will find that the idle timeout implementation will not have any detrimental effect on your service.

might be a useful way of getting out of your contract,
am leaving plusnet myself next week and going to zen
already got my mac so I'm off before they move the goalposts yet again

AOL recently changed their terms and conditions which meant the contract i originally signed was now invalid. This enabled me to leave before my 12 months was up, worth a try pointing it out, ya never know

Sorry, yes it will. I'm on the 2Mb Premier Service and there is nothing Premier about it :annoyed:

Just got my MAC key tonight and I'm off to join UKOnline tomorrow.

£14.99 for unlimited 2MB - can't be bad (for as long as it lasts)
