    Default Uninstalling an anti-virus program

    hi guys,

I have a mate who installed some crappy demo version of norman anti-virus he got when he bought his PC. I think he has tried to uninstall/delete it after discovering it was only a trial version but in the process deleted something to stop the program being uninstalled because when you use the control panel/add and remove programs you can see the offending program but when you click on uninstall nothing happens. I have tried re-installing the software for him but again the same response.

Also because of what he has deleted the normal anti-virus program now comes up with an error every 10 minutes or so. Basically guys what is the best and easiest way to get rid of this crap ?

    cheers !

Info Re: Uninstalling an anti-virus program

i had same problem m8, mine came installed when bought first pc but if i remember you have to go to search and put in name of programme and alsoif it has software to update then search on that also .... start to delete all files you see connected with it.

you may have to also delete from programme files also i also removed files from the registry if i remember right

it took me ages to get rid of it basiccly m8 any file you see connected to it then DELETE one day it will be gone

    hope this has helped

    dont do ^ that method!

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01090510510636

use the syamtec removal tools if no Add/Remove option is available.
    I'm new to this

Tech Re: Uninstalling an anti-virus program

might be an idea to check if there are any services associated with the AV as well , check the service in admin tools from control panel . It might be quite obvious which service it might be . Also checking the registry is a good start .... below is a sample of where to look

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    good luck
