Default Good price for HD plama

    Hitachi 42PD6600 42" plasma
    £1499.95

Unlike other "HD Ready" screens which only have 700 lines of resolution (barely better than normal TV), this baby has 1024. Infact the panel is 1024x1024 pixels. While still not being true HD (1920x1080 pixels), its much better than 99% of crappy "HD Ready" TVs out there.

<Lionel Hutz> Oh I am, am I? Is that what you think? Well if that's what you think, I have something to tell you. Something which may shock and discredit you. And that thing is as follows. I'm not wearing a tie at all.

    My brother tells me:

"I think Hitachi panels use ALIS to double the rez (don't know in which direction) from a source 1024x512 or (512x1024) to 1024x1024. So no, it's shit."

From what I've read (I'm no expert) ALIS seems to be a poor mans trick to double the resolution, but I don't know how effective it is.

"The Hitachi is an Alis panel, basically its two 1024x512 panels criss-crossed together (interlaced) and one set is lit (i.e. all the odd lines) and then the other set are lit (i.e. all the even lines). It allows higher resolution at lower prices, but some argue its not suited to video, and is slightly related to the way CRTs work, rather than the traditional plasma "progressive" (all lines of pixels updated in the same cycle). You really need a demo, as you may love ALIS, you may hate it."

So if true, mite not be such a good deal!!

Well I Have a Hitachi PD7500 which is one of Hitachi's Flagshig Plasma screens and gives a stunning picture with fantastic contast, definition and brightness. If this cheaper plasma from Hitachi uses the same technology as mine then its a awesome deal.
